CBD oil for pain

Posted by timfitz @timfitz, Jul 19, 2016

After trying opiates, and lyrica, and mostly just suffering I tried sublingual CBD which is from the marijuana plant, but has no THC in it, you don't get high. It was very very effective. Not only did it reduce my pain at least 75%, it has a calming effect on the anxiety produced in those of us with chronic pain by the fact we have it. I do recommend it.... Be sure it is from a reliable source. You don't need to smoke anything or get high.

Where do I find a licensed dispensary

Every state has different requirements, in some states you can find it easily- others more difficult. I've seen that you can order online. I tried it (NO THC) and liked the calming effect, but did nothing for the pain. That was through the Martha Stewart brand. Just look online for reviews of CBD, many different kinds and doses.

What’s a reliable source

I buy my CBD from Charlottes Web. If you look online they usually have discounts and if you buy there they send you emails with more discounts. Makes it cheaper (but not cheap) than buying the same reliable brand in a health food store. I find it helps me with reducing pain and helps me sleep when I’ve used up all the Tylenol I can take in a day.

In using CBD for pain it took me a month or two before I began to notice the effect. I have been able to graduate from 6 oxycodone/day to one oxycodone every 2-4 days. And I use combination of THC and CBD but found higher CBD was more effective. That process took me a year to figure out. Give yourself a break since you’ve had the pain for so long why would you expect it to disappear overnight with any analgesic products except injectable ones?

Jenatsky,
Yes, perhaps I didn't give the CBD enough time to kick- in. I did hear from a friend, who is also a Florian that THC is all the rage down there! I could only find CBD 50mg here in S. Carolina: Which did help my adult daughter to sleep better.
It turns out that the pain that I experience is mostly digestive related, as the route that carries the enzymes to the intestine from my liver has been remodeled. This change, along with a partial stomach, spleen and pancreas removal, has been pretty intense! The surgeon gave a timeline of 3 to 6 weeks in recovery, yet- as everyone heals at their own pace; it could take up to a year for my abdomen to settle into all these new ways of processing. I am off all opiods, Tylenol and muscle relaxant is it, for now.

You can also get CBD from hemp. Both my wife and I use it.
Sublingual is one way to take it. It helps to understand how sublingual works and if it is the best way for you to take CBD.
In short, there are nerves under the tongue that take the CBD directly to certain locations in the brain.
We take CBD in 1 milliliter capsules. You can make your own by using a magic butter machine.
CBD made through hemp produces a higher dose than the CBD found in marijuana. I never found a marijuana strain that had no THC but did use it for a couple of years.

The other benefit to capsules is that it has a broad impact on your body and brain, not localized. In addition, when taken using capsules the CBD not only lasts longer but builds up within your body.

But you cannot take CBD orally if you are on Xarelto (or other blood thinners), according to everything I've Googled and read. I wish I could take it for back pain, but I'm afraid not, according to everything I've read (from Googling, etc.) and heard from my cardiologist and PCP. Bummer.

I would do some further checking. My wife takes eliquis for blood thinner due to post AFIB. I have had heart surgery and my Cardiologists UCHealth at the hospital in Colorado Sptings and my PCP are all fine with the capsules. Frankly, when you take it sublingually which I did for some time, the initial impact is to the brain because that is where the nerves under your tongue go. You swallow a decent amount so the only difference would be where the capsules are digested. What I can tell you is what my body experiences and that is within minutes I am receiving relief from my spasms and pain - this quickly - I take 6, 25mg capsules sitting with my legs over the side of the bed and by the time I am lying down, I can feel the relaxation beginning. Same thing when I wake up several hours later due to the CBD wearing off and take 4-6 more capsules. Lay back down and say, Thank you, Jesus.

Thanks, Brett, and I'm glad you get so much relief from it. No bad side effects?

No, I have no bad side effects taking the capsules, in fact, with my undiagnosable neurological/muscular disorder there was a much more positive impact with the pills.

Both my wife's AFIB are post-COVID and I have had several ongoing issues post-COVID.

Any thoughts?

I use CBD capsules and oil. Both have THC in. Some times I use the 50,50% mix when my pain is bad. I have sciatic nerve pain. I have trouble getting tramadol from my doc but cannabis is really helping.
