Hi Kayeellen. I only found this Mayo Clinic Neuropathy Support site a few minutes ago. I live alone and have few visitors. I was wanting to chat with others who may suffer with various forms of neuropathy like myself. I was caught by you “getting so very depressed” because I too deal with depression. Some days worse than others. I generally do my best to ignore it but find myself drinking more and just pining away hoping something good will happen.

Hi - I just found this site yesterday and was wanting to see and know how others are handling this AWFUL neuropathy situation. Seems like there is not much help out there. Yes, I do get depressed, but I have a caring and concerned husband who tries to help me in anyway possible. I read (especially uplifting articles ) as I am an avid reader, and that helps to settle my emotions down quite a lot. I also have a family who helps to get me through this. My leg weakness is so terrifying to me as I can almost see a wheel chair in my near future.

@kayeellen - There are a couple of other discussions that you might find helpful for back pain.

-- Myofascial Release Therapy (MFR) for treating compression and pain: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/myofascial-release-therapy-mfr-for-treating-compression-and-pain/
-- Back pain: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/back-pain-1/

Have you heard of or tried Myofascial Release Therapy?

No - I have NOT heard of the Myofascial Release Therapy. I will NOT go through any more injections...NEVER. But, I will read up on the Myofascial Release Therapy. Thank you for this information. I appreciate it very much.

Hello @tmarvin, Welcome to Connect. I'm sorry to hear you haven't found any help or support for your neuropathy. I know it can be depressing at times when there seems to be no hope and living alone can make things harder for you. I wonder if it might help to read through some of the members stories about their neuropathy. I think you might find the following discussion helpful since a lot of us with neuropathy have struggled trying to find something that provides relief for the pain, numbness and other symptoms.

-- Member Neuropathy Journey Stories: What's Yours?: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/member-neuoropathy-journey-stories-whats-yours/

I think what really helped me when I first joined Connect was learning from other members experience and doing my own research to learn more about neuropathy and what options are available that might provide some relief. You might find the following sites helpful for learning more about neuropathy.

-- Neuropathy Commons: https://neuropathycommons.org/neuropathy/neuropathy-overview
-- Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy: https://www.foundationforpn.org/

Can you share a little more about your neuropathy diagnosis and how long you have had neuropathy?

I was diagnosed with neuropathy about 1 1/2 year ago. For about 3 years I kept telling my Dr that my legs feel weak and I was then told that physical therapy might help. That did NOT help. I have severe burning sensation in my middle back when ever I bend. Also, Dr told me that my SI joint has wear and that he felt that an steroid injection would help. It di NOT help. The SI injection was very painful even with the numbing before. I'm at a loss as to where to turn to for help. Very little sleep and painful walking. I'm going to read on this site all options that others have given. There still might be some HOPE.

Hello @kayeellen, Welcome to Connect. Sorry to hear you haven't been able to find any relief for your pain in your lower back. Are you able to share a little more about your diagnosis and any treatments you have had besides the SI joint injection? Is the pain mostly in your lower back?

My pain is in the lower lumbar of my back and that is where the LUMBAR FUSION was done about 3 1/2 years ago.. The pain / burning sensation radiates up my back. Dr told me that this radiating pain could be coming from the wear on the SI area (noticed on the MRI and CT scan ) and that is why he, Dr, recommended the SI STEROID INJECTION. which did NOT help at all. I also have the leg weakness. At Dr suggestion I did try physical therapy, I tried P/T but that did NOT work. I walk with pain all of the time. A friend suggested for the pain - Tylenol Arthritis 8 HR. - I got some yesterday and I'm going to try this as the TRAMADOL just took the EDGE off for the pain. I am most definitely going to check-out the Myofascial Release Therapy. to see what that is all about.

I have had neuropathy for over 25 years . I am a alcoholic but have not had a drink in 9 years. The point I am trying to convey is my Dr. begged me for years not to drink as it is one of the major items that cause neuropathy. As soon as I did the pain subsided a lot. Thanks and good luck!

Thank you for posting the Happy Brain. It's wonderful! I've been practicing that this past year and it has definitely made a difference in my life.

I have horrible burning in my feet! Have been diagnosed w/ SFN, however just by talking w/ a Neurologist. My circulation test was fine. He based it on paperwork I had filled out & the pain I was experiencing. I want to get a punch biopsy to make sure this is the correct diagnosis. This is SERIOUS & so painful. So did anyone start out like me & the burning pain has traveled up your body to different areas. I’ve read where burning is in the head as well??? Scared to death.

@lexilulu it is pretty normal to be scared about what you read sometimes. It is good to hear your circulation test was fine. What is he recommending next?
