I'm in the Albany area. Where did you go for the spine simulator?

I go to Iowa Clinic @ the Pain Clinic, but don’t have one yet. Going to get a pre-authorization from insurance company & still do some thinking on it. Make sure and read testimonials about this. They’ve come out w/ a smaller unit that goes inside & is MRI friendly… good to hear this!

Hello @dantic123, Welcome to Connect. I am not familiar with the small fiber operation. Are you able to share a little more about the specific treatment or operation that your doctor is saying will give you 50% more relief?

Dr Jacoby in Scottsdale has procedure that requires insertions in pressure points of nerves and inserts fiber type pain sensors that are blocked to the brain. A new procedure and going down for a preview session in late Nov. requires approx 3 trips as he only does on eleg at a time. This is how I under stand it and will no more after my first visit.

I was diagnosed with neuropathy about 1 1/2 year ago. Pain in lower back - weakness in legs and numbness in feet. About 3 weeks ago I had a SI joint injection and was told that this might help. It did NOT help me. It was a very painful injection even with the numbing done. I take tramadol for the pain but that just take the edge off. I so want some relief from this nightmare.

Hello @kayeellen, Welcome to Connect. Sorry to hear you haven't been able to find any relief for your pain in your lower back. Are you able to share a little more about your diagnosis and any treatments you have had besides the SI joint injection? Is the pain mostly in your lower back?

I have had 3 spine surgeries in the past 4 years. Some of my now back pain could be related to the back surgeries. The most recent surgery, this past January,2021, was a laminectomy. I had a spine fusion 4 years ago due to bulging disc. I had a cervical surgery 2 years ago. I have awful back pain when bending and I'm limited when walking as my legs are quite weak. I had the steroid injection hoping that this would help me, but as you read, it did NOT help. I don't sleep well at all. The steroid injection is the only treatment that I've had. I had MRI, Cat-SCAN, and x-ray ordered by Dr. order. He did notice that there was wear on the SI joint and that is the reason for the injection. I'm getting so very depressed in regards to this back pain situation.

Hi Kayeellen. I only found this Mayo Clinic Neuropathy Support site a few minutes ago. I live alone and have few visitors. I was wanting to chat with others who may suffer with various forms of neuropathy like myself. I was caught by you “getting so very depressed” because I too deal with depression. Some days worse than others. I generally do my best to ignore it but find myself drinking more and just pining away hoping something good will happen.

@kayeellen - There are a couple of other discussions that you might find helpful for back pain.

Have you heard of or tried Myofascial Release Therapy?

Hello @tmarvin, Welcome to Connect. I'm sorry to hear you haven't found any help or support for your neuropathy. I know it can be depressing at times when there seems to be no hope and living alone can make things harder for you. I wonder if it might help to read through some of the members stories about their neuropathy. I think you might find the following discussion helpful since a lot of us with neuropathy have struggled trying to find something that provides relief for the pain, numbness and other symptoms.

-- Member Neuropathy Journey Stories: What's Yours?: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/member-neuoropathy-journey-stories-whats-yours/

I think what really helped me when I first joined Connect was learning from other members experience and doing my own research to learn more about neuropathy and what options are available that might provide some relief. You might find the following sites helpful for learning more about neuropathy.

-- Neuropathy Commons: https://neuropathycommons.org/neuropathy/neuropathy-overview
-- Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy: https://www.foundationforpn.org/

Can you share a little more about your neuropathy diagnosis and how long you have had neuropathy?
