The Wages of a missed Neb session.
Here I am at 10:30 Thursday evening, aerosolized saline pestering my throat. Later getting to this chore tonight; tuckered, secondary to deciding earlier today that some soil in my yard would better suit me if was at a different spot in my yard. I’ve known for a long time that when one begins to rearrange the surface of the planet it almost immediately becomes very labor intensive. That in turn leads to my body feeling like Beef Jerky looks, all wizened and gnarly.
My question: how often, if ever, do you skip a treatment session?

It was suggested by a pulmonologist at Mt. Sinai in NYC (associated with Natl Jewish in Denver) that I neb with 7% saline twice a day. I neb with 7% saline - doesn't bother my throat - & reduced L-Glutathione, suggested by a naturopath, ONCE a day & skip doing even that an average of 2 days a week. But need to do postural drainage with Acapella religiously every night. (Prefer Acapella to Aerobika cuz cheaper & only 2 parts to clean instead of 4. ) If any of these jokers were later 70s & low-energy from bronchiectasis like me, they'd KNOW 'twas NO WAY to do these things twice a day & retain any will to live! 🙂 Seriously.
@alessandra...I hear you. At 73, I'm exhausted with postural draining twice a day and frequently fall asleep. I do enjoy listening to books on tape while draining. I can travel anywhere and to any time period whereas in real life I can't even go out into my garden.. I love my puzzles while nebulizing. I've tried new things. I hated giving up my therapy practice, but this forum gives me a chance to talk to discouraged folks as well as get encouragement for myself.
This is the first time in my life that I put myself first without feeling guilty. I appreciate the jokers and hope that you will eventually find humor in successfully managing these diseases.
alessandre, I understand how you're feeling. I'm 73 and do two half-hour sessions a day wearing a SmartVest while nebulizing albuterol then 7% saline. It's a routine I've REALLY grown tired of, but I've also experienced what happens when I miss a session. As a CF patient, I realize that i can't afford any shortcuts, and the Trikafta I'm on (for the CF) is a blessing, but the two sessions a day still totally wear me out!
I have had MAC for three years. Because of low weight, my doctors delayed treatment. Now, with only 37% lung capacity, and very short of breath, they have decided to treat me. I infused, via a PICC line, Amikacin for four months. Along with that, I am on Azithromycin, Ethambutol, and Rifampin (3xday) 7 days a week. I now have Pseudonomas as well. With that diagnosis, I am discontinuing my three antibiotics for two weeks. Instead, I am taking Levofloxocin for two weeks. I nebulize Iprapropium/albuterol followed by 7% saline. I also use a VibraLung. I do this twice daily. I have never been able to produce any sputum with any of this. What is postural draining? Could this possibly help me cough up some of this mucus coating my lungs? Thank you.
Short reply because I'm typing on my phone.
Postural drainage might help, as well as Mucinex and/or Breathe Easy tea by traditional medicinals. Both help with thinning mucus.
Good luck with your difficult regimen.

Thank you so much, Sue! I take 2 Mucinex daily. Is this enough? Where do you get this tea? I have looked, and cannot find it. How do you do postural drainage? My doctor has never mentioned it.
I get it online or at the natural food store or sometimes Walmart.
If the Mucinex is long acting twice a day is the recommendation. Also drink water...a lot
Thank you again!
