Controlling Tinnitus: What works for you?

Tinnitus is ol' Ma Nature's way of filling the silent void when hearing is lost. Some meds can cause it. I was "fortunate" in that the tinnitus moved in at the same time I was having a real battle with balance issues due to Meniere's. When you're having crises, i.e., pukefests, that last for hours as often as three times a week, tinnitus isn't bothersome in the least. Hearing loss on one side isn't, either. After nearly 30 years of having Meniere's in remission, doing vestibular rehab every day to maintain some balance, the monster roared back and struck my hearing ear. I was already used to pulsatile tinnitus in my dead ear and after three months of struggling to hear, I don't even notice the new tinnitus in my former hearing ear. It DOES become far less bothersome over time, which isn't much comfort to you right now. This group of HOH folks have lots of solutions; I've learned a lot about how to cope with severely compromised hearing by paying attention to the discussion here.

There is a blog that is helpful I found a few years ago run by a doctor in Atlanta. He recently retired but kept his tinnitus site open. Google. Dr Nagler tinnitus. You should be able to view all the questions and answers he has posted on line. He was a true expert in tinnitus. Hope this helps.

I've had tinnitus for more years than I can remember. It's part of my life and I've learned to mostly ignore it. I have a high pitched ringing. I had Pulsatile Tinnitus for a few days though and it was truly scary as I thought I'd now have to endure pounding in addition to the ringing. It was more than disconcerting and made me fearful that I had a new medical condition. Then it went away leaving me with the familiar ringing!

Hi everyone, I have buzzing in my hread since my second Moderna jab. Read Dr Poland had tinnitus too after the jab.
Was wondering if gabapantin has worked for anyone?

No it's Dr Poland who mentioned in an email to me that some people say they find relief (but no trials)

Just wondering if you have used Tinnitus Retraining Therapy or CBT, and is haw was your experience? Thanks

I have pulsatilla tinnitus and made peace with it (rationalized it?) because it lets me know when my heart rate is too high. It’s a form of CBT; I don’t view it the way I once did, which was with horror and despair. Podcasts help too!🤓
