Grover's Disease tied to Shinglix Vaccine

Thanks very much. I will give it a shot. I also did some digging in the net and found references to collagen optimization/maintenance. As we age we lose our natural ability to maintain proper collagen levels, which affects skin elasticity and hydration, among other things. I am going to try a supplement for a while and see if that helps.

Another tidbit that I need to look deeper into alleged that as chicken pox was eradicated, shingles incidents grew. The idea was that rather than get the shingles vaccine, find someone with chicken pox and get that infection. The two viruses are related and antibodies from chicken pox may prevent shingles, the writer thought. Too late now for me, but worth some effort for my kids and theirs if it pans out.

Interesting thought, I did have chicken pox as a child so that might be part of the reason I have GD. I am pretty sure that the Shingrix vaccine was the motivation for it.

Shingles is caused by the chicken pox vaccine that lays dormant in your spine and later can cause shingles. It’s the same exact virus. Not related to, the same virus. Like with herpes 1&2, it lays dormant until it re-emerges. That’s why whenever your immune system is compromised, you’re more likely to get an outbreak.

Thank you Babbs. I had always thought there was a link, but was never sure( I don’t do much research). So the Shingrix vaccine just allowed the small pox to emerge as GD, I guess.

To others reading this post - FYI....I was vaccinated for shingles with ZOSTAVAX 4 years ago,(Herpes zoster = Shingles), and my GD started seriously about 3 months later. Be aware if you are offered Zostavax instead of Shingrix.

Thank you for sharing this as my PCP is encouraging me to get shingrix and having battled this horrible grovers for 3 years I can’t risk further flare ups. It’s popping up now on my legs hip and feet in strange places. The only thing that works is strong steroid cream but that has side effects.
I’m also trying collagen supplements.
The brutal heat is another problem as I’m very sensitive. Sorry to complain so much but this group understands our situation.

Well, not exactly. I'm assuming you meant chicken pox and not smallpox. But, that aside, we don't know what the connection is between the Shingrix vaccine and GD. It may not be directly related to the chicken pox virus (although at my worst, I sure looked like I had the worst case of chicken pox ever.) We just don't know. Only that many of us got GD after the vaccine. There could even be the coincidence that our age group is more likely to get the vaccine and GD. Until it's studied, we won't know. There are studies regarding rashes, eczema and atopic dematoses following vaccinations of various sorts. Cause and effect hasn't been established. Perhaps if your dermatologists who do believe there is a causal link would at least publish case studies it might spur more research.

Did I say small pox ? If I did it was a mistake. I am not steeped in science. For me, as well as others it appears, it was cause and effect. I got the shot and then I got GD. Never a symptom before the shots. It just seems too coincidental that so many people on this site had similar reactions. The Shingrix may not have been the cause but may very well have been the factor that prompted it to rear its ugly head.
