Discomfort & weird feelings re: incision area

Posted by saaasbo @saaasbo, Jul 8, 2021

Hi, I’m 10 weeks out from surgery. I’m still a little winded & slow on walks. My incision looks great, but I often have weird feelings of discomfort around that area. Sometimes it feels like in insides are stretching other times it just feels strange & uncomfortable. Please let me know what’s ‘normal’ for 10 weeks. I’m a bit stressed about it all.

I’m sorry to hear you have that because my surgery was six months ago and I have had that, too. It hasn’t gotten better for me plus the scar is starting to thicken and has become very uncomfortable. Putting ice on it helps. But check with your doctor. I went for my yearly skin checkup with my dermatologist and he said that I had hypertrophic scarring. He advised me to ask my cardiologist if it was ok to use silicone scar sheets. My cardiologist said it was ok. You can get them at any drug store and find them near the ace bandages. They aren’t cheap but you can wash them and reuse them for about seven day. They have helped me a lot. Please check with your cardiologist. Good luck.

That sounds normal to me. I had my surgery in January and it improves with time. However, in my case after 6 month, I started to have intense itching and burning in my scar. I happened to have my yearly check up with my dermatologist when this started and he took one look at me and said I had hypertrophic scarring. He advised me to ask my cardiologist if it was ok to use silicone patches on my scar. The patches are also used on burn patients. The cardiologist said ok. I bought the patches at the drugstore and have been using them ever since. They really help a lot.
