Moderna Vaccine not Creating antibodies for Transplant Patients

Posted by benlam11 @benlam11, Apr 25, 2021

I'm a Liver and Kidney transplant patient (June 2019). I received both doses of Moderna in Feb and March. Now at the end of April I took an antibody test for efficacy and I show zero antibodies. I started questioning if I had antibodies after a research paper was published by Johns Hopkins speaking of this problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem and has anyone been advised by their MAYO doctors? The same study also mentioned Cancer patients and anyone else on immunosuppressant medications.

@benlam11, can you please share the link to the research paper published by Johns Hopkins? Thanks.

Thank you not because it is a sad day for us but it will open the door to further research for other options for us. Thank you for posting.

Thank You for beginning to update the Transplant Community. The same appears to be happening to all immunosuppressant communities. (Cancer - Lupus, etc.) I was told on my MAYO portal that they would discussed it in a couple of months. I hope there is a workaround sooner, as I like everyone - am bored to no end and tired of staying home and not being able to see my family for two years now.

I cannot confirm any article, however in my GOOGLING I did see that looks like it is the case. I would suggest that anyone immunocompromised and fully vaccinated - ask for an antibody test during your next labs.

Since Moderna did not provide antibodies, I asked if it could be suggested that I attempt the J&J vaccine. This is the vague response I received from my MAYO provider , which seems to indicate much more research is required, while we are all waiting with "baited breath".

"Please share with the patient that so far we do not have any data to support revaccination with a different vaccine in people who did not mount the appropriate immune response after the 1st vaccine. Even if we are not measuring antibody titers, there are other ways that the vaccine still be protective."

I warned everyone about this!!! John Hopkins showed 17% efficacy after 1 shot and 8% for people on metabolite meds like Cellcept. We need theraputics for transplant recipients!!! The CDC is being remiss in not issuing guidance that addresses this sad situation . They should let immunicompromised people know that we are not protected and not to have a FALSE SENSE OF PROTECTION which could lead us to dropping our guard. and getting infected. Mayo Clinic should issue warnings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
