What are your accommodation recommendations when coming to Mayo?

Posted by Jamie Olson @jamienolson, Mar 24, 2017

Here are links to hotel accommodations in all three Mayo locations:

Jacksonville: http://mayocl.in/2odKzVg
Rochester: http://mayocl.in/2nQ58el
Scottsdale/Phoenix area: http://mayocl.in/2nMeMyq

Where is your favorite place to stay when going to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Jacksonville or Scottsdale/Phoenix? Why?

@heidi2020 Perhaps your friend can list her rental availability with the concierge services at Mayo Clinic Rochester. I am not sure if the service would allow it to be part of their list of accommodations, but it is always worth a try. Many times, easing stress by having a "homey" place to rest up, is a wonderful alternative.

I'll mention it to her. I know her houses are popular so she may be on it already. Thanks

I was there end of January and my daughter was with me as my caretaker, and I rented a little apartment through air B&B. It was in easy walking distance to the Mayo. It was super well run, and all the basic supplies came with the unit. I did air B&B last year, too. It is so much cheaper than any of the hotels, and has more conveniences, too.

If you are female, you can stay for free for one week at the two housing buildings of the Hands of Compassion Ministry. There is no religious pressure or any such if you stay with them down town Rochester (Walking Distance to Mayo, or also reached by the Mayo shuttle). They have some double rooms to accommodate husband and wife, or two females (Mayo patient and caretaker). All rooms are fully equipped, and they have a large kitchen with fridge space for each room. I stayed there a few times, and liked it way better than some of the low cost hotels around. You can leave a free will donation when you leave.
For a reservation, you have o call as early as possible as early as possible, because they are booked out most of the time.
If interested, call 507-289-6025
Again, it is for females only, and sometimes for their spouses. This makes it a very safe environment for females.

Hi, We are traveling to Mayo in late June for 2 weeks/surgery/post-op, etc. Are there any tips for housing (4 adults) other than the Air B&B route, etc? We will be at St Mary's -- Thanks!

@jwcbroughton, welcome. @tanasmeme21 asked a similar question a little while ago, so I moved your question about housing in Rochester while at Mayo Clinic for 2 weeks to this existing discussion.

I encourage you to read through the helpful comments from fellow members. Since you'll also be going to St. Mary's, I think you'll appreciate this photo tour by @jenniferhunter

After reading through the comments, please post more questions about anything that may be missing or that you'd like to know.

@jwcbroughton, is this your first time to Mayo Clinic? May I ask what surgery you'll be having?

I had surgery at St.Marys. My family- husband and kids and sister traveled with me, we stayed at Aspen Suites. We got a 2 bedroom suite with a kitchen- this helped the kids and family not have to eat out every meal and they could walk across the street to see me. We were there for 12 days. We didn’t even have to rent a car. There is a shuttle that will take you to stores, and there is a grocery store nearby also. This was 2 years ago so maybe some has changed. At the time they also had a discount for Mayo patients. Best wishes Mayo is one of the most healing places.

Thank you so much -- We were there in April and stayed at the Kahler for a week as our daughter's appointments were mostly across the street. We are returning in late June for heart surgery at St. Mary's --

I just returned from a visit to Mayo and stayed at StayBridge Suites - Mayo Clinic Area. It is right across the street from St. Mary's. It also has a complimentary shuttle to both the Mayo Clinic and St. Mary's. I appreciated the underground parking ($15/day), but I felt that my vehicle was secure in their underground lot which could only be accessed via your room key card. They also have complimentary breakfast, an evening social with food on Monday - Wednesday, and I stayed in a room with an excellent kitchenette. I can definitely recommend them and will absolutely stay with them again on return visits to Mayo.
