One Year Anniversary!

Posted by insidersguide @insidersguide, Feb 26, 2021

Today, I'm celebrating with Sally, the lovely woman who received my living donation one year ago! She had a 3% chance of finding a suitable match! She's doing really well and I could not be more thrilled. I donated on behalf of my wife Susie who is also one year post-transplant and doing well. Our kidney adventure took place at Mayo Rochester, but both Susie's new kidney came from Jacksonville and my kidney was flown to Jacksonville. Amazing! Susie had many complications and then we were locked down in Rochester during the first wave of the pandemic. Can you imagine being at Mayo Rochester with almost no other patients? It was a ghost town. We were there for nearly eight months...giving me time to write the Second Edition of "Insider's Guide to Mayo Clinic: Expert Advice for Patients and Family from the Patient's Perspective." So glad the book is helpful to so many. Now, I'm writing the story of our kidney adventure at Mayo: "A Tale of Two Kidneys!" There is no place like Mayo! God bless you all!

How you feel after donation? How was recovery? Any big changes? How does it feel to know you saved someone's life?
