MAC and getting the COVID vaccine

Posted by cmi @cmi, Jan 6, 2021

This is a wonderful team...like a real cooperativa family...we are a band of patients that strategize together...amazing. All good dialogue for “rits”...I also believe the CAT scan would be a good step...it arms the doctor with evidence.

I have another question for the group...what are the feelings on “us” being candidates for the Covid vaccine? Has anyone yet vaccinated? I see my ID doc this afternoon...it is one of my concerns. Any feedback appreciated.

Ditto for me! Grateful for others, but there is a brick wall where I live, thus far and the state “lottery” system of covid vaccinations hasn’t brought me any luck (even though it would be a 6 or 8 hour round trip) to get one of the coveted appointments.

Help is on the way! Department of Health announced last week that it is going to be doing a more equitable distribution to rural counties. Stay tuned!

I’ve asked my allergy Dr. because I’m anaphylactic to bee stings and shrimp and was told to read up on the different Covid vaccines and make my decision after doing so. It didn’t sound like to me he wanted to be responsible.

I too am allergic to Bee Stings. Is that going to put us in a risk group to not get the vaccine? Thanks for any light you can shed on that for me. Bonnie

@bonniewhite56 I'm also allergic to bee venoms plus various other types of allergies. I mentioned it to my primary physician. She said it was up to me whether I wanted to get vaccinated or not because not everybody with allergies, whether severe ones or mild ones, will have bad reactions. But she did say that if I decided to be vaccinated I should tell the people there what types of allergies that I had and make sure that I would stay around for at least 15 minutes before leaving in case there would be reactions. I have also read online that the places where the vaccines are administered are all well aware of this issue by now and would be prepared to take action if someone does have a bad reaction to the shot. So I for one am not too concerned about it and would not miss the opportunity to get vaccinated, although my husband and I have not been contacted by our doctors' office just yet. We are both qualified but things are not moving as fast as everybody likes due to shortage of supplies.

I just had my second dose of the Moderna vaccine yesterday. After the first dose 4 weeks ago, all I had was a sore arm for a couple of days. The last 24 hours after the second dose, however, have been awful. Horrible chills last night and then wakefulness until 5AM when I was finally able to get 90 minutes of sleep. Very stiff and sore today, along with a fever.... Ugh!

My daughter & I are both allergic to bee stings (as well as other things) and have both had the Pfizer vaccine without issue.

@sueinmn Thank you for the reassurance, Sue. It's one thing to read about it but it is quite another to hear from someone in the same boat. I'm happy for you and your daughter to finally get to the other side. I'm looking forward to get that opportunity soon.

I don't have any allergies that I know of, but I do wonder why I had such a bad reaction to the vaccine ...still plagued by headaches and a fever earlier today.
