Afib Questions: Is it too late to have an Ablation?

Posted by jimtazzis @jimtazzis, Nov 1, 2020

I have had Afib for 5 years. Is it too late to have that Ablation operation. I am a male 67 years old.

@fighter

My mother had her first and only ablation at 80 years old during her mitral valve replacement and a maze procedure (made her hear smaller for pumping efficiency). You can still have an ablation.

My father was prescribed amiodorone, and I told him not to take it. Nasty drug.

That medicine didnt work for me so they

My 77 year old husband had same, but had ablation yesterday and he feels great this morning and hopeful to be rid of afib which could not be controlled with meds. Doc did combo cryo/RF and it took almost 7 hours. Also implanted LINQ device to monitor ongoing.

Thank You very much for so much wonderful information. I am going to change heart doctors and get another opinion on my
situation. I take no medicines at all except
for my blood thinner Eliquis which helps
prevent against a stroke.

I think we can tell you our own personal reasons for having an ablation. We can tell you our experiences concerning our ablations. We can tell you our ages and other issues we might have had at the same time, we can tell you what our recoveries were like and how we've been doing since the ablation, BUT, your question was actually very simple, "I have had Afib for 5 years. Is it too late to have that Ablation operation? I am a male 67 years old." You have read on here that people in their 80's have undergone successful ablations. I was 68 when I had mine almost 2 years ago. If you are simply looking for reassurance that you're not "too old," then our testimonies should help, but we are NOT cardiac electrophysiologists. The ONLY person who can address your questions and concerns with the knowledge and experience you need to reach a decision that is best for YOU, is your CE.. Whatever your reasons are for reconsidering the ablation, I strongly doubt you needed us to tell you discussing this decision with your doctor is the first step. I CAN tell you it was the best decision I ever made. I'm closing in on two full years post ablation and ZERO episodes of AFIB. It gave me my life back. I wish you the same.

Can extremely low iron levels cause AFIB!. My heart has been in AFIB for 3 month. Haven’t been able to shock it because of visible blood clot on the heart. I’m on Eliquis & 25 my Metoprolol. Having extreme side effects with metoprolol. Going to have to come off of it.
