Heat Intolerance: Symptom of Neuropathy?

Posted by kyc117 @kyc117, Sep 7, 2020

So I am waiting to get my diagnosis, but does anyone else feel odd after being out in the heat for a period of time? I love gardening this weekend was watering for about 20 minutes in the sun. I just felt weird afterwards, symptoms I can't explain. Sweat will just roll down my face, this never happened with me before.I love to take hot showers and one time I felt somewhat ill afterwards. I just feel I can't be out in the heat anymore.

...a couple more examples on heat. The heat of the blow dryer now is a challenge. I mostly let my hair air dry as it's just not worth the overheating. Although I can take a warm to hot shower, which is therapeutic to my body, I sweat afterwards and my body temp takes time to acclimate back to normal. I discovered I could no longer enjoy our hot tub for this reason as well. 🙁

How our lives have changed! Who would have thought that we'd have to adapt to accommodate so many changes. And a lot of us have never liked change. You're on my nightly prayer list, Rachel, along with several other pain warriors I've come to know here on Connect.

Agree with what Hank said here bustrbrwn. And Hank, I thought my posts seem like sermons LOL! Made me chuckle to see you do too! BTW, off subject, do you know how to access emotiocons on a MS Surface Tablet? Boy do I struggle w/ technology. I get them easily on my Samsung Galaxy 10 note phone. But Mildred, my tablet, isn't cooperating! I'm such an expressive person and really want to have them. I had figured a way and now it stopped working. Mmmmmmm. Best, Sunnyflower

I use a laptop with a mouse for all my Connect posts. So I can just right click and pick "emoji" from the menu that appears. What is the tablet equivalent of the right click?

Useful alternative:
If you go to https://getemoji.com You will see HUNDREDS to choose from. Just do copy/paste on whichever you want, like these that I just grabbed. 😩🦶🏽🐵🌜💧🍎 And here's one I always need:🍸 (martini in case you can't tell. That is one problem, if the font is too small it's hard as heck to figure out what some of them are. 😞). Good luck Sunny, Hank

Amen sister! Interesting to me that so many of us who are afflicted so intensely, and those affected by our loved one's afflictions, specially care-givers, share such deep compassion for and understanding with one another. We can relate to the pain loss of quality of life whatever that may be for each of us. My therapist said it is a loss.

There are no words to adequately describe how much it means to me to have found people who get it; who CAN relate! There's no better support than you precious people here on Connect.

I thank God for gifting you into my life. My heart swells with deep gratitude and appreciation for each one of you!

Thank you!! Warmest regards, Sunnyflower. 😊🤗

Sunny, your therapist is correct, life with neuropathy does involve LOSS. Even mourning, for things you will never be able to do again. But there is GAIN as well. As you intimate, finding Connect is one, meeting others who "get it" and have understanding and compassion for each other. Its a meaningful gain for sure. Another is questioning life, like why is this happening to me? What does it mean that this is life for me now. Where this leads is for each of us to decide, but it's there and we have to deal with these new questions. Is that a gain? Up to each of us to figure out. Closeness can be a gain. I know that I am closer to my wife since this all started and I know she feels closer to me. It's a significant gain. My point is that for all the new BAD in our lives, there is some good if you try to find it. Lots of loss described in this discussion. Can't sit in the sun, can't use blow dryer, etc. Life gets so circumscribed by neuropathy. So many new things now off the list. You know what else is a BIG gain? I don't even care about watching the news any more. I have got more important fish to fry, and a wife to care for. Yes!

I heard for years that aging in general involved loss. That people who deal with aging sometimes find that they begin to have more appreciation for the things they still have or can do, and they appreciate them more now that other abilities have gone by the wayside. No sermon here, just a thought.

@jesfactsmon My good is that I have more time to spend with my older relatives, as they age, than I would have if I was still working. That does make me happy.

@rwinney Hi Rachel, I don’t enjoy a bathtub nowadays either. I always air dry my hair and have found during the hot summer days putting my hair up in a pony tail helps to keep me cooler. There is nothing wrong with sweating. It is a natural way for our body to cool itself. Having a fan circulate the air while your skin is wet feels very comforting.

Thx Hank! I don't use a mouse. My bed tray is pretty small. I 've always used the touch screen method and disable the mouse pad.

It is so weird that the other day I held my finger down on the blinking cursor and emoji option appeared. It worked for a few days then stopped.

I think that's why I use my phone a lot.
I appreciate you taking the time to help me!
Warmest regards to you and Linda. 😊 Bless your hearts, Sunnyflower
