Chest and upper back pain with bronchiectasis and pseudomonas

Posted by joann @joanng, Sep 2, 2020

My visit with my pulmonologist today was extremely frustrating. He informed me that my pain in my chest and upper back must be related to something else because lungs can not cause pain. He told me bronchiectasis only causes chest tightness and a cough. My pain is not in my head but It is difficult to accept it’s caused by another problem and not my lung disease and infection. Any input from personal experience would be appreciated. I’m very frustrated to think I have another ailment causing the pain.

@sounder27 Gee whiz, I am sorry you didn’t know that- my ID doctor has me go once a month for those tests. Well the good news is that now you do know. I think you would have have had symptoms if there were a problem (diminished urine output). irene5

No symptoms—-so that is great—-No nausea or vomiting or headache I believe are some of the most common symptoms so I guess I just need to feel better about this whole thing so I think talking to the doctor and doing whatever he tells me will be good.

@judyhodgern SLAP ( sounds like a plan) .You'll get there. (feeling better about it all). The unknown is scary, so your feelings are certainly understandable. irene5

Thank you Colleen but I don’t think I will do that unless I am told that I definitely have kidney failure and I will definitely need some I don’t wanna jump to conclusions here thank you so very much

Sorry to hear you are dealing with this new kidney worry, Judy. I had some mild increases in creatinine on Rifampin which improved when it was stopped. Sometimes kidney function tests can vary quite widely between labs- I assume that all of yours were at the same lab? Also, serum creatinine is not always an accurate way to assess actual kidney function- it would be good to ask your doctors about getting a different measure of kidney function from a 24 hour creatinine and another test called Cystatin C. Good luck and hope the issue resolves.

Terri, thanks for your sympathy. It really does help when you describe exactly what pleurisy feels like. You help a lot of people on this forum.

Hi Joann. I sometimes have pain in my right lung - worse after coughing up sputum. It feels like inflammation. It seems to have resolved with an improving ct scan. wishing you well. .

Thank you, my ct scan has improved but the pain has not. Pulmonologist claims it is not from my lungs so back to my pcp.
