Wounds that take a long time to heal. Why?

Posted by asquires @asquires, May 18, 2020

I have wounds that take forever to heal and everything leaves a scar. Simple scratches to punctures and scrapes. Is this part of having an autoimmune disease?

Could be, if you're taking immunosuppressant medication. If not, have you been checked for diabetes (HbA1C)?

I suggest a really good Dermatologist. They have treated Lichen Planus for a very long time! I have Errosive Oral Lichen Planus. However, in the past 4 years I have also developed Lichen Planus on my skin. It is distressing as brown spots appear. I have been treated with a topical (low dose) Prednison or if your lucky one of the non steroid topicals may work or help. I recommend seeing a dermatologist who trained in a well know Hospital preferably in one with a large diverse population. Some of my brown patches have gone away most have not. Before I started researching the Dr's training I had some (unusual) treatments, too many biopsies and diagnosis. I wish you good health! My spots have not gone away, I have found that once I had the diagnosis and understood that there is really no cure, but there is some relief I have had to adjust. I try to keep a positive attitude by working out, walking, eating well and being grateful the oral pain only flares once in a while. I know how frustrating it is. I hope you find some help!

No. I’m asking about skin wounds that don’t heal normally and finally (after 3 months for a light scratch) leave a scar

The last Hmg A1C was 4.9. A while ago. I’m not on immunosuppressants. I’m not sure about autoimmune symptoms. I’ll look it up.
Ty for responding!

I do better with neosporin and a bandaid for a few days. Most things will leave a scar, but fades over time. For large wound, check in with Dr. Husband went to wound care and they washed with saline, put prisma pad, oil infused gauze and breathable covering. Healed in a few weeks.

@lioness Hi, Linda. You might also try salt n soda rinse. Just a 1/4 tsp in a glass of water and then rinse your mouth! Plain old salt and baking soda. Recommended by the oncology doctors here. Good luck? Becky
