Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency: Is it considered autoimmune?

Have you been tested for Alpha-1 or do your parents have the genetic condition?

Yes I was diagnosed about 20 yrs ago. I developed acute enphasizma as result. I received 13yrs of prolastin IV treatments for my alpha 1. My mother passed at age 56 due to complications of liver failure due to alpha 1 as well as other major contributing factors. I'm 54 and I am a mirror image of my mother's health conditions. @marty1996 are you still receiving prolastin IV treatments for alpha 1? I have no experience with Alpha-1. @windwalker , @kimber361, and @merpreb have mentioned Alpha-1 in a post and may have some suggestions for you.

Hi, I was diagnosed as a carrier of alpha 1. It is considered an autoimmune disease and it affects your lungs and your liver. I have copd but they say its not connected with alpha one but who knows.

Is anyone aware if this autoimmune difficiency will further effect other organs as it progresses such as the pancreas and our kidneys. My organs have decided it's time to battle for position😎

Well I lived in California which is a wonderful place although when moving to Arkansas I discovered the fresh Air was a tremendous improvement for my lungs and I'm not in need of prolastin treatment at this time.😉I'm doing pretty just a touch of bronchitis from changing weather. Thank you all so much for your sharing.🍀
