Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots. Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@athoub, Anyone who is rearing two children and has been working two jobs has a lot of "get up and go!" I admire your spunk and hope your children are of an age to help you during this time. Let us know how you are doing. If you are like some of the rest of us, some days are easier than others.
@lioness I'm walking very short walks with my walker. I'm having less pain with my back surgery, but still have to be careful not be twist. I can bend at my pelvis. Some day I will start your virtual walking with you guys, but it may take a year. Take care my dear lioness.
Well said, @imallears. Learning to practice self-care and be less hard on oneself can be a tough lesson but one so well worth learning.

Please which group should I join I have varicose vein?
@funcountess Big Box plants may be "zoned" for your area, but are probably are not grown in your area unless you live in a very small part of the SE US wherenthey grow things on huge plantations. The plants may or may not be the best specific cultiver for your area. Then they are dug, put into crates and sent to potting centers, potted then crowded onto racks and trucked to local distribution centers, held there until ordered by the stores, put in another truck and sent to the store, offloaded and tended by employees who may or may have any knowledge of plant care. Along the way, the may be subjected to heat, cold, darkness, lack of water, too much water...
Local wholesale nurseries grow their own plants or get them from a nearby grower, pot them, and deliver to the local retail nursery or the customer for sale or planting. The local growers know the best and most successful cultivars for your exact area, climate, soil type and rainfall.
Which palnts do you think would be happier and more successful?
Sue
@rejugochukwu, Welcome to Mayo Connect. I am that you have found Connect. While I am not experiencing varicose veins, I do remember that my mother had them and for years considered getting them treated, but never did. Looking back, I sometimes wonder if she were alive today whether she would look into seeking care.
I have found a discussion in the Heart & Blood Health Group > Treatment for varicose veins. If you click on the blue text, you will be taken directly to the discussion, and you can post your question for others to see. I will look for you there. Let me know in a reply to thie post if you need help. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/treatment-for-varicose-veins/

Thanks Sue,
Never thought of that. Always thought a one gallon, is a one gallon no matter where it came from. Do you have any favorite dry fertilizers? Would love for the Indian Hawthorne to grow faster. are you familiar with the bush? They have pretty pink tiny flowers on it in the spring and summer.
How is your thumb doing? Are you healed yet?
Stay well,
Funcountess
