C. diff relapse?

Posted by patts @patts, Sep 1, 2019

How many have had a relapse. I finished my two weeks of vancomycin and believe I still have it. Did a stool sample Friday, so I guess I’ll see. Tired of isolation, Clorox and mood.

Hi @patts, that must be frustrating to feel you have relapsed after finishing your prescribed medication.

@sue6408 @annapocono and @danab have all mentioned c. diff in the past and may be able to offer you support.

Back to you @patts, how long did you have c. diff the first time?

Ho @patts, i sure feel your pain. Are you sure its a relaps? It took me a month to finally get over the symptoms. I had finished the meds but still needed frequent bathroom visits. Them finally after a month my bowels started acting a bit more normal.

Thank you. I finished 2 weeks of vancomycin last Thursday and things aren’t back to normal bowel-wise yet. Encouraging to know it may be done or leaving. I still feel I should use gloves and Clorox wipes for awhile tho!

Well, I went full-blown waterfall diarrhea during the middle of the night, 🙁. My gastro appointment this Tuesday was cancelled since we had hurricane threat. Just called for a reschedule and they can’t get me in until the 18th. . Spoke with the nurse and she was going to talk to the doctor to see what should be done, not happy.

@patts. I’ve had 4 relapses & then an FMT on February 28th. I’m finally in remission, but my tummy still isn’t right. Lots of foods still hurt me. I either have not enough stool or too much, but not diarrhea. I’m thankful to be alive though. I pray that you are ok. I had a wonderful GI that would see me anytime I called. Good luck,,,PRAYERS.

Thank you! My doc decided to have me do some more tests and put me on a round of a higher dosage of Vancomycin for two weeks, then a tapering off period after that.

Okay, all my c diff people, lol. Doc says I’m cleared to go out now, etc., since my bowels have pretty much righted themselves. I finish off my Vancomycin prescription midday tomorrow.

I’m going to bleach mop the bathroom and fixtures and continue with the Clorox wipes at least another week. I’ve an appointment to see her in three weeks. But IF I start having sympathy again, to call her immediately.

She will then prescribe a 6-week taper program and/or go with a FMT. Funny, being a gastro doc, she’s freaked out by the thought of FMT. I told her if it works, I’m all for it.

I told her my concern with multiple relapses and how I’m afraid I’ll telapse right before our dream British Isles cruise next August. She said she’d give me a prophylactic Vancomycin prescription to keep me “clear.”
