Resound or Oticon?

The purchase of any hearing aid(s) is a bundled price that includes the time spend in trialing them, time spent in wearing them, and the time spent w/audiologist to adjust them to your hearing loss. If they don't work - then take them back and ask for a copy of your audiogram. Even though the hearing aids are powerful or may be toted to be the best for someone, they may not be what you need. If you hearing loss is profound, perhaps you need a cochlear implant or a type of implant between the two. Going to a hospital/university based ENT/Audiologist based facility may be able to help you if you word comprehension is to the point where you can no determine what speech is and a hearing aid can not help you. An audiogram can not help determine that. speech/word comprehension ratio. Check on that since this is the other part of the equation for people who are hard of hearing/deaf. .

All of this is my fault I know as he said perhaps I should return to my older aids but I said I wanted so much for the newer aid to work that I would continue to try. I gambled and lost a great deal for my wishful thinking.

The audiologist should have acknowledge the mistake earlier and change for the lair that works- normal deal for reputable ones.

Nano works with you - and they are honest -I am moderate to severe. And they work to the point I will not be without hearing. They do not go by audiograms which makes it even more amazing that they work at any level. I am a fan.
It’s sounds like Audiologists nowadays do not do the care they used to. I know mine former one failed me (never a speech within noise hearing test -my current Penn care does) she wanted awards instead of working wirh you as promised.

I have tested both and chose the Oticon Opn1 - since I bought mine late 2018, they have come out with an updated aid which I "hear" is even more powerful. I have worn Phonaks in the past and had a good experience. The audiologist you work with is very important, as so much of the art in properly fitting the aid rests with this key individual. Has anyone had success with using a cochlear implant with a resound hearing aid? I have heard that they can work together with one remote but have not yet found someone who knows the technology.

I have Resound Lynx. As with the Resound and the other hearing aids I've had, for me the main problem is hearing in noisy surroundings. At those times I set it to reduce background noise and sounds, but they do little to no good. That's where the hearing aid industry is really lacking.

i have used both together - both companies make a phone clip, mini mic and TV streamer that work with both the hearing aid and implant - there is a remote for the implant that adjusts settings, but i have not yet a remote that works with both. hope this helps

@nurseheadake Eloise, your Resounds don't have the little wire that goes into your ear, correct? Is the unit that fits behind your ear pretty small? My last hearing aids, Phonaks were behind the ear, no wire, and were quite large. too large. I got thim several years ago I'm just still having a problem with the wire and the the little cone insert in my new Resounds. I'm wondering how the newer Phonaks are in comparison to the Resounds quality-wise.

Hi Sparklegram - My Resound LinX were the first generation hearing aids that promoted the streaming into my iPhone. They are small behind-the-ears, digital and yes have the plastic tube that connects to my ears with the replaceable buds. I have some residual hearing so these hearing aids help me with what I don't have. Each year Resound/GN updates their Hearing Computers to do more for for those who can't hear. Check out their website that shows what is happening behind the scene and the latest models that are available. I have not updated mine because mine are still appropriate for me.
Each night when I take my hearing aids out, I take the buds off and wash them by hand with soap and water and then put them and the hearing aids, open the battery container - and put them all into my cleaner for the night. This allows for the aids, batteries and buds to last longer and for my ears to not itch because I am allergic to anything that sits near or on my ears. (they are plastic and draw moisture, bugs, etc.) Remember, these instruments are computers and need to be well taken care of and if you want them to work for you - they need to be properly taken care of to function for you in the most optimum way. Just like you take care of your home PC, laptop, cell phones, etc...your aids, CI and hearing devices are just as valuable if not more. Eloise
