Fibromyalgia Medication and treatment

Posted by Sundance(RB) @sundance6, Jun 1, 2019

I have been on the Mayo Connect for over six months. My symptoms point to the umbrella of things, Lyme disease, West Nile, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, and Chronice Fatigue. I have seen every doctor in my hospital system. Had every test and scans done. JUST MADE MORE $$ FOR THE HOSPITAL SYSTEM!

Yesterday I finally went to a Rheumatologist for a consultation on a blood test. When I expalined what I had been going through the last ten months he finally gave me a diagnoses. (First one after 10 months and 10 doctors.)There is a small chance I may have Lyme Disease, but to late to tell. He said he was sure it is Fibromyalgia. He said I should have been directed to him when it first started. (Again as many of you agree they put you through unecessay test and perscribe pills to make $$ for the industry.

So now that I finally have some direction to move, I need some advice, information, what helps, what causes it and such. He said he feels mine is in the area of sleep. Does this make sense to anyone? He is sending me to a sleep clinic for evaluation.

I know I have seen many postings about Fibromyalgia, but I guess it is the "Fibro Fog" that dosen't remember all.

I had been on Gabretentian but the side effects were worse than my pain! We are tryng Cymbalta. Can anyone let me know how it has worked for them. Anything to watch for?
As always this site is the Best! People are so honest and open about helping.
Thanks,
Sundance 🙂

Morning.......I have numerous health issues and one is fibromyalgia . Besides the osteoarthritis and open heart surgery and mostly the meds the pain was to the point of little or no sleep. CBD oil which I spray as often as needed can be purchased over the counter has helped ease some of the pain. I am also on medical cannabis and the product I purchased from the dispensary is a miracle.....I can finally get relief and sleep, which is needed for one's body to heal.Always ask your doctor before taking anything including vitamins, especially if you are on blood thinners. Hoping you are able to get some relief soon.

@sundance6 Hi I've had fibromyalgia since the 90,s there is no cure and Dr,s still don't know the cause of it if you don't get a good sleep at night your muscles can't relax. Have you tried these are all things I do I have done. Epsom salt bath or wring out a washcloth and apply, hot showers ,Tens unit to relax tight muscles, Fibro Malic it's from Vitacost.com Melatonin for sleep, I take CBD helps with sleep and pain ,research it for the quality, aqua exercise in warm water. There is also a Epsom salt in rub form by Procure even a vinegar in water is good like Epsom Salts Cider not white vinegar. These are just a few things I use.I don't want any sleep mask. .

Hello Sundance...Yes, I tried the edibles for sleep I have to watch the % of THC since it increases my pulse and pressure rates. I was told that I had Lupus too.....that was not true either. You should try the cannabis that's Indica ....I use half a dropper an hour before bed and at least the pain disappears and I can sleep...for more than 8 months after the open heart surgery I averaged 2 to 4 hours of sleep and no matter how many times I called the cardiologist about no sleep, headaches, gums bleeding, light headed , weak , back pain etc. I got the same response ....the benefits outweigh the side effects....I finally changed the main cardiologist but kept the AFIB specialist.
Sleep clinic ???? You can't sleep because you're in pain ! Geez......I'm not a doctor but I would try the over the counter CBD oil spray or cream and if your state allows the medical cannabis get the Indica blend tincture that relaxes you , takes away the pain and lets you sleep. Maybe a new doctor might be needed too . But, I always tell people before they try something new, even vitamins a doctor should be consulted. Hope you get some relief soon.

THC does the same to me. I got some edibles in Colorado that were low on THC. I tried them for several days and didn't seem to help. I have a some of the body main as most others. My pain is in the form of headaches. I have never suffered from them in my life until 10 months ago, and now they don't go away! The doctor said it is because Fibromyalgia magnifies the pain. Has some validity.
Also,as I have said before I have been extremely physically active my whole life, 72 years! From team sports in my younger days to hiking, skiing, fly fishing racing I have always been active. Now the tiredness and lack of energy is bringing me down mentally. I would say that could be the cause of my headaches, but the headaches came first and have caused me to slow down to a crawl!

Stress and sadness have started a flare in the pain of fibromyalgia. Three weeks ago we got a new furry member of the family. He is a beautiful milk chocolate Labrador about 3 years old. Boy,does he have personality! He will be going to training while we go on vacation later this month. It's been hard getting him and my granny dog 13 years to get along. And then the horrific shooting in Virginia Beach has really got me. You may not know my husband served in the Navy for 31 years. We lived in Virginia Beach for 12 years. I had been casually acquainted with one of the victims many years ago. I once worked for the City of Virginia Beach and made frequent trips to the Municipal complex of offices.

To try and ease the flare, I have been using my tens unit more, the heating pad, and taking baths with Epsom Salts.I'm hoping talking about the stress will help. Thanks for letting me vent!
