Lodging transplant patients

Posted by jeaniecm @jeaniecm, May 14, 2019

I will be having a SCT at Mayo in Rochester The transplant will be outpatient so I will need an apartment for my husband and me during a 6 week stay. I would like information from others who have had extended stay, The two places I’m considering is Charter House and Broadway Plaza

Hello, We now always stay at Charter House for any Mayo visits. We realky like it and were never disappointed . It is just a short skyway walk to Mayo and Charlton building is right there so no need to walk outside or depend on tranport. I don't know for sure but they can give good rates for longer stay for Mayo transplant patients. Worth a inquiry there. We were introduced to Mayo for my son's Liver transplant that was in Jacksonville but we go to Rochester for any treatment that my husband needs now.

After looking at our options we are thinking the Charter House would be best for us, we have seen pictures but unable to view in person. Wondering if it is nice accommodations? The pictures looked like the furnishings were nice am I correct? Also have you eaten there? My husband isn’t “much of a cook” and I was thinking it would be nice to use their dining room. Thanks

Hello ,
We lived there quite a bit last year and at times ate upstairs. Food is good and many options. I am vegan so bit issue but always found something. Corner cupboard is good too for breakfast and wed. lunch specials. I have many friends there. You will like it.

Hello, i meant stayed not lived..i think my english is off at times. Anyway you knew what i meant. See if you can check out the C corner type. in my view thise have best layout. other are good too but i liked these. Bedrooms bit small but i liked that bedroom was in the back and private...not right there as soon as you enter the apt. I am sure you will like Charter house . I don't have any motive in promoting Charter House...;) but only that in my view it is best situated and competitive in price. We did stay at other places but now always Charter House. Very nice residents and staff.

Thanks your advice is VERY helpful. My one concern was there was not a washer in the unit but was told there were washers on the 4th floor. Did you have any problems having washer available when needed?

REPLY

Hello,
No, washer dryer availability was not much of an issue.

@jeaniecm, in addition to @amlak helpful tips and experience about staying at Charter House in Rochester, I'd like to bring @llwortman (Linda) into the conversation. I believe she stayed at Charter House for an extended period while her husband was in care.
