I am pressing on! I just feel awful for my mom i know her heart is to be there with dad. They wont let her even visit.
Oh thank you all SO much for responding everyone!!!
- dad ended up getting an ivc filter placed in his right corroded Artery today incase the clot broke loose he believes they had then restarted the heprin. He has been visited by his oncologist which is great news. He will be getting a colonoscopy tomorrow because he has blood in his stool. I asked dad about putting me on hippaa as someone who can talk to docs i think he has me as a poa - but upon him or mom being incapacitated. Im looking into all the diff poa’s and ive printed forms to discuss with dad after he gets out. He seems to think he has completed these forms with me on them but has to give copies to hospitals but im not sure.
I did have my mom call up today at hosp. To have her - have the nurse re- explain what they did to her slowly so she could write it down. She told me she spoke so fast when she called she thought dad was getting a culvert put in his neck??? - anyway she clearly said ivc and i had her answer some more questions. So this is where we are. Thank you all for your love and prayers -concern and thoughts and advice and sharing your experiences! It helps me so much! I cant tell you enough!

Well I cant get anything done cause you cant go into the hosp. -Nurses have no accountability -its hard. I really like to be with mom n dad when he is in the hosp. Mom cant even be with him. Hes alone. Its after noon and he still hasnt had the colonoscopy! Hes hungry! They wont let him eat because he has to get that done i understand but why didnt they get it done earlier? and apparently they are changing his bladder stint that his bladder ostomy before he goes...which they still havent done. idk im just so bothered by all this his blood count is down well he cant eat! Why arent they getting anything done? If family could be there things might be moving faster. Im frustrated...i dont want to upset them cause im afraid it will get worse for dad:(

@formydad Of course you are concerned, that's natural. If they do not seem to be overly concerned about the blood infection then it probably is very minor. You are confident of his doctors and the hospital, right?

The delay in a procedure like a colonoscopy can be from the infection but it can also be from many other things. Hospitals have things scheduled but often things happen to disrupt those schedules. I was supposed to have a procedure early one day when I was pre-transplant but due to a machine malfunctioning on that day my procedure got put off until the afternoon. It was annoying because I had to then spend the night in the hospital which was unplanned, but things happen.
When there is a delay I always try to think that there is a patient who needs more time than anticipated and I don't get upset because I feel if I needed extra time they would do that for me also. The only exception to that is when a doctor runs late consistently.
Try to be patient and if you can at least have contact with your dad you and he will both feel better.
Hugs, JK

Yes.Your right- Patience. I should know that by now and i do. But boy i havent been thinking as i ought so thanks for the reminders! I have No excuses for sure- its even harder when you are trying to help out while not being able to be there. He was ready to sign himself out today. But he did’nt. and he’ll be there till sunday for sure prob into mon my guess. They are putting a pic line in for him to administer his own antibiotic at home. I have a long list of doctors that have seen and talked with him - urologist- gastro colon doc- oncologist- resident overseer doc - some really long name blood infection doc- the urologist said he should call dr smith about his stent whom placed it when he got his bladder out which i thought they had replaced because of the blood infection which they think is from that but they didnt. But dad called him. Dr smith is with a team of docs Who took his bladder out and then he got his urostomy bag.
Confident in the docs all the different ones? Not so much. The hospital no i dont like it but its close to their home and his docs go there...Dad says he only trusts his oncologist right now. Thats scary. But i did have a doctor outside of all this tell me his colon doc is very good. Which helps he couldnt get theough the entire colon he took a biopsy dads waiting on that he thinks its twisted.. so we’re waiting. Im trying to keep my moms mind from wandering too far on things. Thanks for keeping me reminded of others. And the Lord is my rock i know sometimes im not the best witness but he really is! Love and thanks to you all!

@formydad How is your family doing this morning? If your dad has not done so, it might be advisable to have him designate who can receive information on his medical care, perhaps your mom and you both. That is different from S=durable power of Attorney for Medical Care, which allows a designated person/persons to make healthcare decisions if he is unable to. Given all the circumstances, it will show a united front to his medical team, although it takes frank discussion between family members without becoming maudlin, just honesty. We are all crowding in to the corner behind you, your mom, and dad.

@formydad I am so sorry to hear about this turn of events. I know that you, your mom and your dad have been working really hard on keeping him healthy and going. It sounds like he has had excellent medical care, but we just never know what is in store for us, do we? I know as he starts to feel worse and you all have to step up it may be difficult. I hope that your dad and your mom have had sincere heart-to-heart talks about what maybe ahead, and that you will reach out both to the palliative care and to hospice for their assistance. They are a wonderful group of people who can help with a lot of education and easing a lot of your questions. I will hold you all in my heart and think of you each day. If there is anything I can do, please reach out. We care here and we are humbled that you have shared this journey with us. You are a strong person!
