Posted by formydad @formydad, Apr 24, 2019

He is getting surgery tomorrow to remove mass have no idea if cancerous- assuming they will send off - doc said removal may”jump start his kidney which he was unaware is not functioning.. he had prostate cancer and has brach treatment i believe - that cancers gone but i have been reading that having had radiation for it may lead to bladder cancer - anyone experience this?

@formydad I hope when you read this, that both your mom and dad have been offered some relief from their issues! It's such a difficult place to be, as a child you look to them to caretake you and now the role is reversed! What type fluid was determined to be in your dad's abdomen? Holding you all close in prayer.

I am so sorry to hear this @formydad. Was your mom ever given anything for pain? You might call her doctor to ask for something. As for your dad, I’m just feeling helpless and sad. I’m so glad your mother got him to the ER where he/they can get help. And you’re going to be there! Your presence will make such a difference. It’s very difficult, though, to see frail, elderly parents who were once such strong, energetic persons, isn’t it?
But, how about you? You’ve taken on such a huge, but important, task. How are you taking care of yourself?

Its not easy seeing your parents age or yourself i think. Its hard but its life.
My husbands mom n dad have been having issues too lately- his dad passed out at a poker game and his heart thing was set too high so it didnt shock him- so Ended up at hospital for observation-hes following up with cardiologist- and his mom is in a home- started in independent living- had a small stroke and uti moved to assisted in same complex was doing therapy- but never was able to get back to walking or doing enough anymore to be in assisted shes in memory care part now and its worse! She was found on floor yesterday am from bed! - im daughter in law so gotta stay zipped there are eight kids and the one in charge of medical lives in texas😵 she calls gets ahold of people ect but old fashioned get in peoples faces is the best and most fruitful for movement or attention to an issue i think. Ive been reading on delirium Vs. Dementia and i think she has delirium- maybe another uti
Shes swollen she has heart issues and she said she thinks she has narcolepsy now..idk its hard for me to stand on sidelines but i know i have to although i did tell them id be glad to get in faces up the food chain to get some results.
They are testing the fluid in his abdomen now to see if it is urine or something else.they are putting a drain in bigger than what he had right after operation so idk how long he’ll be in here...
- i was perusing online reading and thought it might be ascites but the nurse said no she thinks it may be a fissure or something related to post op not ongoing which hopefully is a better senario.

@formydad Wow, I had no idea that you were dealing with your husbands family also! You might just have to let that go and concentrate on only your parents. And yourself and your husband. Think you could do that? Maybe he could suggest MayoClinicConnect to his sister—it might give her some ideas and an outlet for stress. Please take care of yourself. Becky

I will take care thanks🥰. I didnt go up today but dad gets to go hone tomorrow ill grab mom n go up n wait till they release him n ill take them home- they’ve Found there seems to be no infection thats good it was just body made fluid in his body cavity not urine... he’ll have to go home with the other bag and depending on how much contents will determine how long he’ll have.. going home with two bags oh yay..🙄 but he is feeling tons better can go to bathroom and hes not in pain. Thats all good. Then he’ll have to return so surgeon can remove at some point. Thanks for just being an ear 🙂 and hangin in on this rollercoaster of events. I will suggest this site to his family😊

@formydad It’s really good to hear that your dad is going home! Does he have Home Care or Visiting Nurses to help manage the drains, etc? Give your mom a cyber hug from me!
