My dad has a mass on bladder and kidney not functioning

@formydad I agree—what is happening? I own a dog, but she is just a dog and only goes for walks with me, not to Target and wherever. Some people I know are totally reliant on their pets and can’t imagine doing anything without them. Some people just take advantage and don’t think of anyone else. I’m sorry this is happening and making things harder for your mom. You might try contacting the office and chemo infusion center before your dads appointment to let them know how uncomfortable your mom is. Ask that they keep all dogs away from your parents, that they are stressed enough already.

My dad is getting chemo every wed 5 hrs and 2 hrs Thursday for 12 weeks- must not have been hit too hard with side effects yet- but its early - worked mon n today im sure it helps take mind off all this- 2nd treatment session starts again tomorrow. My mom doesn't stay she just drops him off- 🙁 so dogs aren't an issue dad says no need for her to be there that long... he will get surgery to rwmove bladder after the 12 weeks of chemo- not really sure why he has to go through all that and still has to get it removed. But thats what oncologist says...

Thanks for letting us know how your doing, @formydad . I’m glad chemo is going OK so far. Frequently the side effects don’t show up right away, they tend to have an accumulative effect eventually. Why surgery after chemo? The doctors want to make sure that the area of cancer is small enough to remove safely and that nothing will be harmed during surgery. The bladder touches other organs and they need to be protected. Give your dad my best, and mom, too. Just take things one day at a time! Stay in touch. I’ll be thinking of you! Becky

Thanks for the information on why chemo before removal- just seems like extra possibilities of other issues doing it that way but i suppose it would either way you went.. thanks for thinking about them! i will keep you updated- yes one day at a time- for sure and prayer! Thanks again:)

Found out today dad has a bye week in between now so not sure if he goes wed thurs waits week then more chemo and so on... for twelve treatments? Or if the bye week counts towards the twelve...

@formydad Usually the bye week means a week off so the cancer cells will be at a growth stage ready to get pummeled by the chemo again. Just ask your Dad’s oncologist to be sure. Also helps the patient get a nice break. Hope all is going well!

Dads doing ok so far- tired sleeps alot and not well at night- feeling fluey- still manages to get to work as they need him which im positive helps him- wish he would go out more but guess you have to watch being around people going through this. I am really saddened to think after all this he still has to have his bladder removed. He is concerned about it as anyone will be -im praying for a miracle- if not theres purpose in it but it seem so drastic.
