Anxiety or Heart Issues?

Posted by libby93 @libby93, Apr 19, 2019

Before I start I want to inform you that I do have severe anxiety and panic disorder. I'm also a 25 year old female. About 2 years ago I started experiencing these awful chest pains. It scared me so bad I went to the ER to get checked out. They did chest x rays, ekg, etc. All of those came back normal. So they sent me home and said to take asprin. The pains kept coming back. It was to the point where I couldn't leave the house. I quit my job and everything. Everyone told me it was just my anxiety. I finally set myself up with a PCP. Told him all the symptoms I was experiencing, convinced I was going to have a heart attack. He had me do another xray, a stress test, blood work, and wear a heart holter monitor for 72 hours. All of those once again where clear. So he put me on a low dose beta blocker and it's done wonders for me up until about 2 weeks ago. The chest pains, dizziness, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, left arm pain and tingling, etc all came back. I missed 4 days of work cause I couldn't leave the house. Again went to the ER a few days ago over this.... nothing was found... is it all anxiety and in my head? Or is there something wrong with my heart? It's ruining my life... I had all these tests done to show my heart is healthy but I can't help but think my dr missed something... thanks for reading.

I have been dealing with the same stuff for over 2 1/2 month, it all started with a wonky ekg in the er that led me to being admitted into the hospital for a day to have a stress test done and ultra sound of the heart. Both came back fine, but since then, I am dealing with severe anxiety , and stress. I been to the er countless times and all times a EKG is ran and comes back fine, along with my blood work. Also even had a x-ray of heart done. I have even visited my hear doc and she said it was all good. But still not feeling good, waking up several days a week with just a biggest racing heart. They say this can be anxiety , but I just don't like the feeling I am having. I just want to get over this hurdle and start feeling better. The cardiologist said they will probably do a heart monitor for a few days along with at CT scan of the heart.

Hi,I am going through the same thing about anxiety! I've been getting up all through the night feeling very weird don't know where to turn where to go or even how to talk to people about it but I do have an appointment with my Doctor today so I'm praying that we'll come up with some answers! I do have 1 question for you so does your heart have anything to do with the anxiety? I've never heard of it but which I am very new with the anxiety & looking for answers about it to take to my Doctor. Thank you & God bless

From what I have been told , anxiety can cause all sorts of problems with your body, including your heart. Be open and honest and upfront with your doctor about all that you are experiencing. I pray you get some answers.

Hi, @paulaagans - just wanted to check in with you and see how things are going with the anxiety you were experiencing and the getting up all through the night? How did your doctor appointment go?

@libby93 - thinking of you and wondering how you are doing lately?

First off i am 75 years old and live alone. My former husband passed away 2 years ago. I am dealing with lung cancer and copd since 2011 plus having a heart attack when i was 62. My parents are gone have one sister who i have never been close to even as kids. I started seeing a counselor when i was diagnosed with the cancer and she has been my rock. In december i started having episodes of getting the chills and then start shaking uncontrollably. . This summer started happening more often. Had a mri done and a short eeg done at mayo. Nothing showed up so then had a 72 hour eeg and everything was ok I still have the episodes tho not as often. So whats next. Anxiety was mentioned. .. i am on a low dosage of what i call a happy pill. But what do i do about these shaking spells
Do i see a psychiatrist is it anxiety. Where do i go from here. I need some ideas

Hi, @sakota - I wanted to let you know I moved your post here to be part of this previous discussion on determining what may be anxiety, since you said it was mentioned as a possible reason for the chills and then uncontrollable shaking you have experienced.

I'd also like to introduce you to @johnhans @hopeful33250 @cdcc @grandmar, who have all talked about anxiety on Connect and may have some experiences to share. I'd also invite @arowlands6 @trellg132 @paulaagans @jt5369 who have been part of this discussion on anxiety for any insights they may have for you.

What is your gut feeling at this point, sakota? Does potential anxiety causing these symptoms feel like a viable potential to you?

@sakota Pretty scary when something like this happens for the first time, then continues, isn't it? Have you had a complete physical done recently, to rule out anything organic to cause the sudden chill? The doctors might check for thyroid issues or a recurring infection, doing some lab tests to figure it out. I hope you find out soon, for your peace of mind.
