depression/anxiety

Posted by brit @brit, Feb 3, 2019

Today if feel so anxious and depressed. I say that because I feel that every day. Nothing changes and you know what because I am not doing anything for myself. Tomorrow I am starting a new yoga class it will be here at home alone. Its a start and I am tired of feeling this way and I must do something to
help myself instead of hoping the Lord will do it. I have to partisipate too. Wish me well and will keep you posted. God Bless Patti

@brit I’m so happy that you walked!! And being outside is medicine all by itself! At least you live in Florida, I live in Colorado and some days have to force myself to get out. But it’s gotten to be sick a habit, that go every day except when it’s icy. Do you have a smart phone? Mine came with an app that keeps track of how much I walk each day. Just keep it in my pocket. Makes a difference knowing you’ve achieved something! Keep up the good work , or should I say, good walk!

I just read an article in a Fabric Art magazine that was very good and I guess I was meant to read it today. Titled “ You Don’t have to Be Good at Art to Benefit from an Artistic Hobby” by Casey Lesser. It says everyone can benefit from the arts whether they’re talented or not. “A plethora of research studies have shown that expressing ourselves through art can help to ease a wide range of illnesses and afflictions, from anxiety and depression, to dementia and cancer. More broadly, making art—be that sketching, writing poetry, dancing or playing with clay—can make us feel happier and more relaxed, and can also help to improve our observation, motor and problem-solving skills.” How do we find the time? Set aside a portion of your time spent on electronics to doodling, knitting, painting, etc. Few people have hobbies because “we’re afraid of being bad at them.” As a result we’re missing out on the benefits that leisure activities can deliver—like making us creative, happy and calm.
So let’s get doodling, fishing, playing card, birdwatching, sewing, painting, gardening. Sure can’t hurt!

@becsbuddy Thank you for sharing this.
My input-art helps keep me sane. When we doing creative things no matter what it is it is not bad. We all need to try not to compare ourselves to others and enjoy the process. Happy creating when you can. Doodling is good for the heart.

@parus @becsbuddy Yep, I have maintained that idea for years. Losing yourself into some form of art helps balance out the crazy-making things that happen.

@brit Good that you have decided to take some course of action. There is no “magic” that will accomplish the things you need to do to help yourself. Keep in mind the body is the temple.

@lioness I am humbled by your sharing the picture. While making my flight plans for June's training in Rhode Island, I shared a couple pictures with the agent, as she wanted to see my work. It is not something I am comfortable doing. Tell me more about the art and poetry forum - very interested! I talked myself out of extending my outing, just came home.
