Shingrix and peripheral neuropathy

Posted by joannerhodes @joannerhodes, Feb 1, 2019

4 days after my 2nd Shingrix vaccination, I suddenly developed intense peripheral neuropathy in both feet...for the first time in my life...anyone else?

@jonnyd

I got the second Shingrix shot on Jan.10, 2020 and developed pretty severe peripheral neuropathy in both feet and somewhat all over 4 days later. I've been on Gabapentin and now Pregabalin since then. Can't go without it unfortunately. Has really impacted my quality of life in a big way. Side effects of meds have made me less motivated. Retiring this year as a result. Haven't read all the above comments but wondering if any connections have been made between Shingrix and PN or if anyone is even looking into it?

Guys, anyone who experiences neuropathy from a shingles vaccine absolutely should report it to the FDA. This is considered a serious adverse reaction to the FDA. IF YOUR REPORTED THE REACTION TO YOUR MD. BY LAW THEY SHOULD HAVE REPORTED IT TO THE COMPANY THAT MAKES THE VACCINE.. I worked for a major pharmaceutical company for over 30 years, and have reported many adverse reactions to my company listed reaction in the PI and those not listed in the PI. The FDA will notify the company of the report, and if enough come on, the will initiate an investigation.

I have replied to your posting from 2/4/19, previously, but I think it is time to revisit this. Three days after my 1st Shingrix shot on 3/12/19, I developed, what I thought was Restless Leg Syndrome, but after many tests - EMG among others/appointments/consults, I have now been diagnosed with Sensory Neuropathy of unknown cause. I will not get the 2nd Shingrix shot. I take 25 mg Amitriptyline in the evening and 600 mg Gabapentin at bedtime. I sleep well with these medications. I am 78 now and do not want to change my regime. I would like to hear about others who may have information linking Shingrix and neuropathy.

I now have burning feet and legs after the second Shingrix injection. I had general dizziness first for a month and now what appears to be peripheral neuropathy. I have my first consultation with a neurologist on Oct 6, 2020. I am wondering how everyone else is doing. How many out there have had this kind of a reaction to the Shingrix. I filled a formal report.

Dear DonT, I am so very sorry to hear what happened to you. Did you check to see if there is already a class action lawsuit about this? I had my 2nd shot recently without any side-effects thank God. I will keep you in my prayers and pray that you get relief!! Warmest regards, Sunnyflower @bustrbrwn22

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Years ago I had a shingles shot. I planned to get the new Shingles vaccine but never got around to it. I already have polyneuropathy of unknown origins. I will not get this vaccine because I don't need any more pain and disability. Thanks again.

The Shingles Shots that I had received from a national pharmacy did not have any side effects except a sore arm for a few days...

Same here, got mine @ Kaiser Permanente. Glad you didn't have any side-effects. Warm wishes, Sunnyflower

Hi @dont
Your Mayo name of "dont" must stand for "don't get a shingrix shot". I can not believe all the odd things that seem to be causing people to develop neuropathy these days. It's becoming an epidemic of sorts. I don't remember this happening to people back 50 or 60 years ago. I wonder what gives? All kinds of things are causing peripheral neuropathy now. Weird.

Hi magnum52 and @jonnyd I'm thinking there must be a class action lawsuit by now? Sunnyflower

I worked for a major pharmaceutical company for over 30 years, and I can absolutely tell you that your reaction to the shot needs to be reported to the FDA. Docs don’t like to get involved with the paperwork to report an adverse reaction. Check with the FDA yourself to see what the next step is.

Hi magnum52 and @bustrbrwn22 My guess is there may be a class action lawsuit already??? This is just terrible!!!!! I had my 2nd without any side-effects Thank God! But my heart really goes out to those who now have them. Just terrible. Warm wishes and prayers, Sunnyflower

Thank you so much Sunnyflower.

Be advised that my burning sensation did not start until about a month after the 2nd injection. I am unaware of any class action lawsuits. I’m in the early stage of investing all of this. I want to wait until I speak to the neurologist about it first. Don

I have had the first shingles vaccine with no sign of a problem. I need to get the 2nd one done. If it protects me from shingles, I'm all for it. But to have adverse reactions to the shot makes me want to give it more thought. I have had sfpn long before shingles shots. Are there studies that have looked at the risks and the possible connection to pn?
