C. difficile – Are your guts ever normal again?
Does anyone know any body that has recovered from c.diff (guts back to pre-c.diff status ) . I have been negative for a year and still have bloating every time I eat anything and sporadic diarrhea. I need maternity clothing to eat and be comfortable. I have 0 appetite since I was initially infected.I am on creon 36,000 . this helps some what with bloating,I take papya&pineapple enzymes not helping, and floraster 2xday not sure about that.I have tried the FODMAP diet, I avoid many foods on that diet. I am seeing an RD, just finished an elimination diet with her. If I eat I bloat there for I am. Bottom line...are my guts ruined forever ?

Correct - because these are the foods that have the prebiotics in them - they help put down the microbe that your gut needs. That is why the Cdiff has difficulty implanting itself into your GI Tract where it usually lives.
I have mild rheumatoid arthritis in addition to having had C. Diff. When I reported to RA doctor that I had some constipation and was leery of taking any of the usual laxative type stuff because of what was in them, she suggested instead Prebiotics. i bought the "hyperbiotics" brand and it totally took care of the problem.
since having C. Diff i have become ANEMIC. Has that happened to any of you? the GI doctor says that while the colon heals itself within two weeks, the intestinal flora takes a long time to restore and I think what he was saying is that I am not able to get all the nutrition from my food yet. I also have had a really HARD TIME PUTTING WEIGHT BACK ON despite eating huge amounts. has that happened to any of you?
@annapocono I, too, have not been able to gain any weight since I got sick last September. I worry cause I only weigh 89lbs. and if I get sick, I will be in big trouble!
@annapocono Also, all the probiotic foods you have mentioned, I do not eat! Not yogurt. So, I really don't know what to do about the probiotic I have been taking.
Yep...you all will be skinny - lose weight because the Cdiff is taking away all of your good bacteria from your gut and you have little to defend yourself and help you build yourself up. If you go to a Health Food Store - they can give you some suggestions of good Prebiotics that you might like to eat. Change to a different Probiotic - one that is refrigerated and has the highest number of the biotics.
These foods will also help you get rid of this super bug: papayas, aloe vera, any of the raw fruits and veggies and also oregano, rosemary, sage and thyme. These suggestions are from Anthony William's Medical Medium Life-Changing Foods. I follow his books for my own health and it works.
I was told by my GI Dr not to take probiotics while on the antibiotics. The antibiotics kill the good with the bad bacteria and you're trying to replenish something that the antibiotic is killing. If you take the probiotics while taking the antibiotic you're stopping the antibiotic from doing it's job. He always told me to take the probiotics after i'm done with the antibiotic to build good bacteria.
Bananas are a good prebiotic.
Some docs do it both ways - depending on what part of the country you come from....
Indeed they are ...
