I have been diagnosed with IBS and am in the elimination phase of the low FODMAP diet. I never know when I am going to have abdominal cramps and/or diarrhea or what is causing them. There are other FODMAPS besides fructose that contribute to IBS. I also have GERD, which has been a problem for me for years. The medications may have contributed to developing IBS as a couple of people have mentioned, but at this point my reflux problem has become worse. I am taking a larger dosage of Nexium, plus sucralfate and am still having problems at night. This is truly miserable!
@kay57, @guthealth, @baponline, @sandyabb@ey, @drpepper, @jammins. Here is a simple, easy, delicious recipe for chicken and rice.
Bake chicken thighs in the oven at 350 for about 1 hour. Meanwhile, boil some white basmati rice. When both are done, remove the chicken and put it on a plate. Pour the drippings into a clear glass container such as a measuring cup and let the fat rise to the top. Skim the fat off with a spoon (I use a gravy ladle) and add the remainder of the drippings to the rice pot. Stir. Serve with the chicken. Easy and very stomach friendly. Sometimes I put thyme on the chicken at the table but it tastes so good you don't really need it. .
@lelia. I had to look in my spam folder but I got this. I am interested in all info about lactose intolerance or FM. I need to be able to get some yogurt & things like that. I have Cdiff at the moment, but hopefully I’m getting better. I need the active bacteria in the yogurts. I’m appreciate any info I can get.
Hi. Thanks for the recipe it'll be good for my 88 years young mother. I have totally eliminated meat from my diet as it upsets my stomach. I only eat seafood and veggies, no butter, milk, nuts, and the list goes on.

Glad you can use it. Here's a salmon recipe my husband and I developed, also easy and delicious. Fry salmon until it is well browned. In the meantime boil the white basmati rice. When the salmon is done, put it on the plates. Then add the rice to the pan and stir it around with the spatula, getting up all the brown stuff, oils, etc. Serve with the salmon. This is one of our favorites. We don't add any seasonings or anything except maybe pepper at the table. Hope you can eat rice. White basmati rice is very easily digested. @@

@leila amazing this is a recipe my grandmother made many years ago and I still make today, it is a delicious dish for sure. I'll be 61 on Sunday. Funny thing tho my mother will not eat fish of any kind, but I love it. Thanks much 😊
Will definitely keep the recipe. Sounds easy to make and delicious. I am off grains right now and not able to eat it, but don’t doubt I will be able to eat it in the future. For those in the early stages of recovery like me, watch out for too many grains, including rice. It can be tough to digest. My nutritionist said is a no no for now. I ate rice all my life without problems until I developed this bout of antibiotic induced colitis. So I don’t doubt I will get back to it someday. Thank you for sharing the recipe. Interestingly, I am not allowed to eat rice but can eat rice crackers because the protein has been largely digested in the process of making the flour.

So sorry to hear you can't eat rice. I wonder if you could use potatoes instead - microwave, cut up, and then add to the salmon pan instead of the rice. Maybe I'll try it too. A question off the subject: are you able to eat any herbs or spices? If so, what are they? I'm trying to broaden what I eat (cinnamon, sage, thyme, black pepper, salt) and could use some input. Tried rosemary, oregano, and parsley and did not agree. Thanks.

Not restricted from spices per se. Just no onions or garlic right now. I always check the FODMAP list or email my nutritionist if in doubt. I use salt, pepper, can use garlic infused olive oil but no garlic. I use cinnamon and vanilla extract. Nutritionist does not want me eating a lot of potatoes right now either. Take longer to digest. I am allowed to have a few spoonfuls of rice and a few bites of potato here and there. Just not regularly I have tried reintroducing lentils and can eat them in small amounts if properly cooked. I have no problem consuming meats, eggs, etc. Everybody is different.
@leila I am able to tolerate most spices accept for Cajun or things that are really hot. But I do very well with Italian seasoning which I put on my salm on steak, also turmeric, food ole salt & pepper, no garlic at all it immediately upsets my tummy. I'm sorry I couldn't be more help. I really never used a lot of spices in my cooking even before my diagnosis. I also use only evil or canola oil for cooking. Have a blessed day 😊

See chicken and rice recipe at the end of fructose malabsorption. I spelled your name wrong!

You're very welcome. Your mother might eat fish if it tastes good, but may be hard to get her to try it! My sister is that way.
