fructose intolerance/malabsorption

Is anyone taking a particular enzyme which allows your system to break down carbs and sugars?

I sympathize with you I had all the above lactose intolerant, fructose, high fiber etc. after 4 years of going to several doctors one finally immediately send me to have a colonoscopy and the biopsies showed I had collagenous colitis which is treatable form of colitis but can not be cured. I was prescribed Budesonide (very expensive if you have no insurance $800.00 or more) it worked stopped the diarrhea within a few days but then after a couple of weeks I had to stopped the meds because I got constipated. So far without taken the meds and watching my diet and I am ok. I realize as long as I am around I will always have this problem and have to live with it better then the alternative not living. At least now I know what was the cause of my problem with the diarrhea and I was also told I have IBS I found out if I relax and walk a lot it does help with the digestion. The not knowing is the worst for your problems because anxiety triggers the abdominal issues.

Yes, I have seen multiple gastro doctors to no avail; they don't know how to deal with my issues. I have been tested for bacteria but was negative. I am glad you are finding relief.

Have to be your own advocate. I know. Only way to get to the bottom of it. Trial and error with just about everything. Probably going to take us years to figure it all out. I've been at it for about 3 years. Now. I've been seeing my GI for that long and so far all they tend to want to do is give me colonoscopies. Interesting enough I just saw my allergist and boy did that shed some light on the subject. Big time. Sucks that I have these allergies because it's as if someone pulled a rug out from underneath me. It's going to be expensive dealing with them. BUT, I'm starting to believe that this is at the root of my problem with my digestive system. Even though it's going to be expensive dealing with this as I'm allergic to corn, coconut and propolis and didn't know it. I almost bought some Manuka honey to help me with my leaky gut. Just gotta keep plugging away and researching and asking questions. Until you get your answers it's going to frustrate you. Best wishes to all here on these posts!

Oh boy!! You are having a breakthru and I'm so glad!! I'm beginning to suspect I need to get off these PPIs and do the allergist again (haven't done that in years!! I saw a new gastro today..and I am extremely deflated.. says "well I can't quote it//) nut doing a CT of my head for brain tumor.. and an upper GI..I has water diarrhea twice while in his office.. oh he says.. that just happens.. (colitis and tortuous colon diagnosis from two prior GIs).. IDK.. I think after reading your post.. allergist may be the way to go!! I'll pray it won't be too expensive..but what is your health worth.. ohhh I am soo glad for you!!

Does the Intoleran's Fructase enzyme really work?

Jump to this post

Celiacpt, I misspoke and take Quatrase and Starchway and cannot eat much fruit. I think if these two work, the Fructase will too. Intoleran sells test packs now for $6. Try it with a bit of the fruit you are avoiding. I remember reading that they recommended newbies start with three capsules, to ensure a good result. If you discover you need less, great! Right now I take one of the two I mentioned at every snack or meal. I would be in trouble if I didn't. Good luck and let me know if you try it and how you do. Maybe you'll give me courage to try "real" fruit.

I'd like to start a discussion on fructose malabsorption, how to control it, what to eat and not eat, etc. . Is anybody interested?

celiacpt,

I should have tried the Fructase earlier! As my main fruit was papaya, and it is supposed to contain digestive enzymes, I didn't try Fructase (though I had a box).

I can now say it works for me and calms my gut after eating papaya. I just take one, along with my other digestive enzymes from this company.

Note that I have IBS-C (and other gut\health problems) that all add up to making me hypersensitive to almost all foods. Stress/anxiety also plays a significant role in my IBS-C, as does other things.

Anyway, to answer your question, I buy them online from a European company called Intoleran.
