Yeast infection help

Posted by the1boss @the1boss, Dec 3, 2018

Hey three days ago I had signs of a yeast infection and I went to the doctor; he prescribed cephalexin and ketoconazole both of which I’m suppose to take/use three times a day. My questions are, the antibiotics are for what exactly as from my research they don’t really positively effect yeast infections and also on applying the ketoconazole I notice that after washing off any discharge and drying it off, when I apply the anti fungal, that minutes later it will start having a clear discharge which turns into a mucus white transparent discharge hours later, is that ok/normal as I know keeping the area dry is important?

-I’m uncircumcised and the area is my foreskin/side on penis glans.

Thanks.

I wanted to tag fellow users @peabody88 and @cehunt57 as they have experience with yeast infections and may be able to share their experiences with you.

Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Did they give you their reasoning as to why he prescribed antibiotics?

Thanks for the links, but I've already seen similar articles while researching :s, also as for the reason my doctor gave the antibiotics, I assume he was worried about a bacterial problem?

My last ditch resort to help with chronic yeast issues as a woman were to follow a 2 month detox diet by Dr. William Crook. It's simple. NO SUGAR AND NO CARBS FOR 2 MONTHS. Sugar in any form, processed or natural in sugar, breeds yeast, just like in an alcohol still. Give up all carbs, not just gluten. I am talking- all as in rice, corn, wheat, quinoa and so on. Eat all the meat, chicken and eggs you want. No aged fermented cheese, but fresh cheese allowed and probiotic yogurt. All veggies, except legumes (beans and peas) and mushrooms (a fungus). No alcohol, especially beer. Only sweeter allowed is Stevia- nice to put in plain probiotic yogurt. His book list 3 nutritional supplements which kill off the yeast.

After 4-5 weeks noticed big improvement and after 8 weeks all issues at zero. Now on week 9 I am adding back a small amount of good carbs (still no white flour for life and no yeast products). Also allowed 2 pieces of fruit a week and then check for reaction. My yeast living in my intestine had to starve to death. Yeast sends signals to our brain like other addictions to smoking and drugs. The yeast demands to be fed and craves sugar and carbs. You will go though craving withdrawal. After week 6 also noticed a sharp decrease in craving for ice cream, candy and other sweets. Now I don't miss it at all. I can watch my diabetic husband eat a mounded bowl of ice cream and I am not interested and my mouth doesn't water. He has had chronic issues of yeast in the folds of his skin between his legs and torso which he uses Nystatin on or cortisone. It is chronic, but he is not at all interested in giving up any of his food or alcohol pleasures. I believe he doesn't feel the pain or the severe itching like I used to, as one must be motivated to deprive themselves and for me pain is a big motivator in changing life style.

Something to think about.

I have a yeast infection in my vagina, white cheesy discharge, pruritic some time, recently I have some burning sensation.
This symptoms I noticed after using antibacterial soap in washing my genitalia for one time, and symptoms last since 4 month.

Hi, @ayamahamed - I wanted to add my welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect, along with @lioness. The burning sensation and discharge sound quite uncomfortable.

I moved your message to this existing discussion on yeast infection so that you can connect with members who are also talking about this topic. Hoping you can meet @the1boss @gardeningjunkie. @jjohnson8747 @kg7382 @mary1234 have also mentioned various types of yeast infections and may have suggestions and provide some support for you.

If you click on VIEW & REPLY in your email notification, you will see the whole discussion and can join in, meet, and participate with other members talking about their experiences.

Have you been seen by your doctor for this infection, @ayamahamed? If so, what did he or she recommend?

@ayamahamed- Your yeast may have been triggered by an allergic reaction to anti-biotic soap. I am severely allergic to these soaps. I learned I have Allergic Contact Dermatitis, ACD with the 5 Day Extended Patch Test which gave me the names of the chemicals and natural ingredient I am allergic to. This is not the simple 30 minute environmental office visit test for pollen's, animals, molds an so on.Advice- Buy an less allergic soap, never use an antibacterial soap- chemicals I am allergic to are in all of them. Order from Amazon, Grandma's Soap for face and body, a bar soap Don't be alarmed by one of the 2 ingredients being lye (the other on is lard). Lye is converted to glycerin a safe substance during the soap making process.
Now Grandma's is a SkinSafe approved by the Mayo. It's all I use ever. Also quit any soft soap as they have many chemicals or natural ingredients that can cause reaction.
This antibacterial soap may have started the sensitive balance of your female system to go out of whack- it happened to me dear, so now you are dealing with 2 issues- allergies and yeast.
You may need help with anti-yeast PX pill initially- Fluconazole Tablet, yet eating normally your yeast will not die out completely and it will return. Fluconazole Tabs may be required once a week for several weeks or even monthly later on. You also must detox your body of yeast which can reside happily in your intestines. Refer to Crook diet in my Dec 8, 18 post. Also add a few herbals- oregano, caprilic acid and Kolorex daily. These are potent anti-yeast herbals, perhaps begin using every other day. Much testing has been done and determined that these herbals are just as successful, although they take longer than the Fluconazole Tablet. Eating good pro-biotic has already mentioned by lioness. I always eat a bowl of true pro-biotic unflavored yogurt daily, sugar free. If too sour for you Stevia is the only allowed artificial sweetener, Now Brand has good one for sale on Amazon, super potent, just a pinch will flavor an 8 oz bowl. I like it very much.
Swelling and burning in vaginal area tissues is gone with this plan and I had been dealing with these issues for years.

@ayamahamed Hi I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing this. If you haven’t gone to the doctor yet to be tested, you should start there as there are many other medical conditions that mimic yeast and each has a different treatment. If your doctor has already ruled out the others and you know it’s yeast, then you may need both a systemic treatment (pill) as well as topical (OTC creams typically work well). @gardeningjunkie provided a lot of good information as well. Wearing cotton underwear (if not already mentioned) and looser fitting clothes will help. (yeast likes to grow in dark damp areas) Hope you are better soon!

As mentioned by ayamahamed wear 100% cotton underwear, but even better if you do not have a discharge do not wear underwear, at least at home. Wear a loose cotton house-dress or skirt. This airflow keeps the moisture down. Idea recommended by my gynecologist.

Have read that using a hair dryer is good for the area, on low of course. Front and back to really be dry.
My only problem were reactions from antibiotics, the itching is unrelenting.
