People's Opinions On Zoloft?
Hey,
Is anyone on Zoloft here? I was with my Psychiatrist two weeks ago (Diagnosis of BPD, Depression and GAD) and we were discussing my severe anxiety and panic attacks and she prescribed Zoloft. I'm sure the dose was 50mg to be increased this week, but my mind seriously couldn't handle this drug. I had violent thoughts, I felt completely out of touch with my body, I walked out of a store and left my coat, hat and gloves there and even lit a cigarette in the middle of the post office (No exaggeration). It was like I was acting without even thinking and only realizing minutes later. After four days I had to stop because I couldn't function properly and went to my GP and told her. She immediately stopped the medication and left notes on her PC for my Psychiatrist when I see her this day next week. Has anyone ever experienced side effects to this level on Zoloft before?
Thanks guys,
Ed

Hi @parus
Yes, I agree. It is tough having anxiety and panic attacks and I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. I really hope that you will be ok. It's a terrible thing to suffer from,
Ed
@parus- I love Zoloft but it's not enough for me I have to take Wellbutrin too. But it helps me a lot! I am relieved that I don't have attacks, but when I get very anxious I also take a cbd oil.
Hey love - I’ve been on 7 different medications so far. 0.25 mg of clonazapam, and then things such as celexa, cipralex.. etc to try and find one that works. Zoloft, even at 25 mg I believe it was, made me super loopy and mean. (I would say I’m natural and very kind a nice person) - somedays it feels like Russian roulette trying to get the pairing of these medications down. I’m still struggling myself.
I have Fibromyalgia and have been on every anti depressant from paxil to zoloft. Zoloft did nothing, welbutrin was tolerable but ineffective and all the others made me sick. Then the benzos, sleeping pills, gabapentin, cymbalta etc. I think in the long run they have complicated my condition. I no longer have any good days and my depression seems to be permanent. My advice to anyone dealing with theses chronic episodes, have a good support group and don't let anyone tell you "it's all in your head"
@pharis022 - I am curious if you changed doctors during these medication changes. May I ask what you are on now? Fibromyalgia is an extremely complex illness. I've know several people who have had it. There has been recent breakthroughs using cannabis to treat it. Please know that I am not telling you to take it, but it could be an options for you. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29461346 Medications can cause depression and I hope that you go back to your doctor and discuss your present mental health situation. There is no reason to put up with medications that make you depressed.
@pharis022 It is NOT all in your head nor mine either. A support group can be beneficial. Sorry you are struggling at this time. It can be disheartening when one cannot find a medication that will help.
It took me quite awhile to get me the proper meds for my depression. It may take a doctor change but it is not impossible to find some hope. In my case the doctor needed to increase my dosage to a very high level. Have you.tried therapy along with the antidepressants? Let us know how you are doing.
I started Zoloft, a low dose of 25 mg, first day I was on it personally, I was EXTREMELY nauseous after eating in the morning after taking the pill, my stomach was ruined the entire day and I have zero appetite. Also, (TMI) but I also experienced diahrea right after taking this pill, which never happens. As you explained, I, too, I felt like a zombie, my head was in the clouds but not in a good way, lol. I will never take Zoloft again. I also felt while all of this was going on, my anxiety went up, whether it was from the medication or me not feeling well, this med was not for me.
This shows how we are all different. I take 150 mg of Zoloft and have no problems with it. There are other meds people have listed here that work for them but not for me. It is as I have said a trial and error to see what works and what does not. Zoloft is the only antidepressant that works for me.
I have been on Zoloft for about 25 years. I tried going off once but I can always tell—my anger comes out! Key to my depression. I have thought about changing my dosage because the Zoloft interacts with another medication I take and gives me a “foggy brain.” With my doctors OK, I just reduced the dosage of both and the fogginess has gone. Talk with your doctor and let her/him know what you are experiencing. Most adjustments to new meds take about 2 weeks. But, talk to your doctor. I wish you luck—you don’t need added problems from medications!
