MEDS FOR HCM - DOSAGE

Posted by archer @archer, Nov 22, 2018

---My medications are Metoprolol (50mg twice daily) and Losartan (25mg once daily). The Metoprolol dosage was an increase which my physician prescribed about three years ago. My question is this: Does anyone her take a higher dosage of Metoprolol (or another beta-blocker)? My most troubling symptom is dizziness, sometimes feeling near-fainting. (A fainting episode ten years ago is what first sent me to the doctor.) Lately, the dizziness has gotten a bit worse. Was wondering if an increased dosage has helped anyone with this symptom.

Do you see a HCM specialist? Losartan is not a medication that is commonly used in HCM. Many people take Toprol (I take the same amount you do) but the Losartan is unusual and unless prescribed by a doctor with a specialty in HCM, I would wonder about taking it. I travel to Mayo Clinic from California to see a top HCM specialist due to their familiarity with the disease. Many if not most cardiologists are not that well versed in the treatment of HCM.

So true, my husband traveled to Rochester to see the experts in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and had a fantastic meeting with Dr Geske who was thorough and we came away from that meeting more enlightened about the disease.

Hello. I am fairly new here. Was just wondering if anyone takes verapamil and Labetalol for this condition. I have insomnia and terrible nightmares when I do sleep. Is this normal

I take 150 mg Metoprolol (100 mg morning and 50 mg evening), 40 mg Benicar (generic for that is Olmesartan that I take) and 20 mg Rosuvastatin. Fedex is delivering today for the first time my first 5 mg 35 capsules of Camzyos that I have never taken before. I hope I will not have side effects due to the extremely high dossage of Metoprolol. Any one with that high dose of Metoprolol taking Camzyos now? If yes, did it affect you with side effects due to the high dosage of Metoprolol?. Thank you!

You may want to speak with the pharmacist who dispenses Camzyos. They check every drug interaction.

I don't know if this is helpful as I take one 100 mg Metoprolol every morning. My cardiologist switched me from 50 mg at night and 50 mg in the morning to one 100 mg in the morning when I started Camzyos. I am not on any other heart medication. Everyone starts at 5 mg and gets 35 capsules. I have been on camzyos for 10 months. Initially, I was changed from 5 mg of camzyos to 2.5 after 30 days . In the course of the 10 months I was switched back to 5 mg (in December) and now have been switched to a 10 mg dose. You will have your echos every month for three months. Basically, you cardiologist will be looking at your LVOT pressure gradient. Mine has changed over the 10 months being on Camzyos which is why my dose has changed. Let your cardiologist know if you have any symptoms such as fatigue or anything else that concerns you.

@nnanakpm thank you for your advise.
I am now 3rd day of camzyos 5 mg one capsule once a day and with God's blessings I have no side effects so far as of today. I have strong faith the 2.2 cm of growth in my heart muscle will reduce and in around 10 to 12 months I will finish successfully this great treatment. I started to feel I can breath better only after the first capsule of camzyos. Thank God.

Hi @reenj62
I would consult with the pharmacist and/or cardiologist to make sure you are not having anymore nightmares for I do not think that is normal. My father had HCM took verapamil and he did not have any nightmares.
I hope this helps and you find a way to have no more nightmares.
