Art for Healing

Kudos to the Montreal Museum of Fine Art for allowing physicians to write prescriptions for free admission to the museum. And kudos to Mayo Clinic for its art program. From the beginning, Mayo Clinic believed that art can uplift patients and foster healing. Whether it's Rochester, Jacksonville or Scottsdale, Mayo Clinic displays a wide range of artwork for patients. The Rochester site published a brochure for a self-guided tour of artwork. I live in Rochester and every time I'm at Mayo, I take the time to look at the artwork.

Thanks, @jenniferhunter. I don't think of myself as artistic but I'm going to give some art work at try!

One of my friends shared something wonderful today. I've known Mack for a number of years. He is a talented musician, composer and a music therapist. He often visits nursing homes with his guitar and sings, and he has been involved with many people with disabilities and using his music to raise funds and awareness for things like therapeutic horse back riding, and skiing for those with disabilities. Before I had my spine surgery, I reached out to Mack as I was learning how to use music as therapy with deep breathing to relax and work on my lowering my anxiety, and he assured me that I was on the right track. You will see Mack in this film with his guitar with Max near the beginning of the film, and during the credits, Mack sings a song they wrote together. I was very moved by this and I think you will be too.

That was VERY inspirational, he's quite a guy. Watching this brought a flood of emotions as I couldn't help but to think about my Dad who also was a quadriplegic.
Thank you for sharing.

Good Morning kids,
I can't get over how talented you gals are.
If I can successfully draw a stick figure I feel deserving of a standing ovation. Nice there are so many artistic people who bring so much beauty into the world. Keep up the beautiful work and continue sharing.
Jake

@jakedduck1 Thanks Leonard. As an artist, I really like to get feedback on what my work means to them when they see it. It's always nice to be appreciated. Thank you.

I wouldn't call this art, but it seems this pig "Pigcasso" enjoys painting canvases, and people are paying money for what the pig is painting. So......if a pig can do this for fun, then we can too. It's an amusing story and the pig is mimicking his owner. It takes intelligence to design something original that is art and I guess this pig is smart enough to learn by watching his owner, and he's probably playing. I've read about elephants learning and memorizing how to paint a picture of a tree, but I don't know if they make the cerebral connection of recognition that humans do when they see an image that represents something that has meaning. I wonder if this pig has other pig friends he paints with... and does he hog all the art supplies? I wonder who signs his work.

I recently found this saying, or, rather, it found me! Thought it fit perfectly with our discussion on art and healing
