Stomach pain and bloating for 4 months after eating frozen pizza

Posted by goldenmummy @goldenmummy, Aug 20, 2018

Basically four months ago (April 9th) I ate a severely undercooked frozen pizza and have felt like something is stuck in my stomach ever since. The pizza had a lot of raw dough in it. I’m very bloated and nauseous a lot of the time. Also it causes other pains like arm pain and leg pain. I’m not constipated per se, but my motility is awful now. I feel like I have no movement in my digestive system. My digestive system is full of stool also and never really empties, even though I have bowel movements. I have had many tests done (MRI to test for Crohns, colonoscopy, endoscopy, and most recently a gastric emptying study) all with normal results. I believe I have raw dough stuck in my stomach and/or yeast causing a problem in my stomach. I have tried making myself throw up, but it’s hard to do and exhausting. I go back to my GI doctor on September 15. I think I may need to have my stomach pumped or have surgery of some kind, as I am not getting any better and it has been over four months. Please if you have some insight share it with me. I’m not sure what to do and I’m at the end of my rope. Thank you.

@goldenmummy I'm so sorry your having stomach issues. I know it is miserable to feelike that.
Were you by any chance tested H-plori? The thing you want to discuss is Gerd?

I had H-pylori and was also diagnosed with Gerd. Some of your symptoms sound like what I have dealt and am dealing with.

You may want to ask about those two things. Or seek another drs opinion.
I wish you the best.

I haven’t been tested for h. Pylori. I think I’m going to have to see another doctor. What I’m worried about is that I have raw dough and/or yeast stuck in my stomach or causing problems in there. Because I shouldn’t be sick and bloated for 4+ months. My digestion is really poor now since April and my doctor said my stomach was silent when she listened to it.

I really don’t know what to do. If anyone else has any other thoughts or suggestions I would be so thankful.

Hello @goldenmummy

I am so sorry to hear of your digestive problems. It really does sound very uncomfortable and I can understand your concerns. A second opinion is a good idea.

It sounds as if you have had a lot of tests. You mentioned having an MRI. Was this of the upper part of your stomach or the colon area?

What does your doctor say about the fact that your stomach is "silent" now?

I’m not sure what area they did the MRI on. All I know is it was a special MRI designed to test for Crohn’s disease, which came back negative.

I see a few doctors, well two at the moment, for this situation, and she didn’t say anything other than it sounded really quiet which is unusual. She has me taking special supplements (GI-Revive and GI Microb-X) in addition to the supplements I already take (probiotic and digestive enzymes), but they haven’t helped any so far. She wants me to start taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before meals also, but I’m not sure that will do anything.

We do have many members who use apple cider vinegar before meals. It has not been helpful for me, but since your doctor mentioned it, it might be worth a try.

Yes I suppose I could try it. But I’m more concerned about the feeling of something stuck in my stomach that never goes away, even when I haven’t eaten for many hours. How can I get rid of that? What if I have something stuck inside my stomach or intestines? That’s what I think about, anyways. Will I need surgery? Have you ever heard of anything like my story?

REPLY

@goldenmummy No, I've never heard anything like this before.

What type of foods do you eat now? Do you eat small frequent meals, soft foods, walk after eating or do some other form of exercise? What about fluids?

I am on a low fodmap diet, and eat mostly rice, vegetables and meat. I’m also gluten free and dairy free. I drink plenty of water. I sometimes skip meals because I feel too bloated and blocked to eat, but I don’t eat big meals generally. I don’t always walk after eating.

@goldenmummy If you do not always walk after eating you might try some other exercise program after meals. There are some great videos on Youtube that involve chair exercises and gentle stretching. Here are a few that you can take a look at, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCTYAFTAaU0 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxcNBejxlzs&t=30s

If you could try one of those when you are not able to get out and walk, that might be helpful in avoiding that bloated, full feeling.

I might also suggest that you look at some of the gastroparesis discussions on Connect. While you have not been diagnosed with this disorder the symptoms do sound somewhat similar. Here is one of the Connect discussions on gastroparesis and diet, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/gastroparesis-diet-questions/

Your symptoms are very unique. Will you keep in touch and let me know how you are doing?
