Hi @cmeyers, welcome to Connect. I know that as a new member you cannot post links yet. We do this to prevent spammers from posting.

For that reason, I did a little bit of research on Afaya Plus produced by Hyatt Life Sciences. The science they post on their website is not very thorough, so I had to do a bit of digging around. The website was careful however to post this caution:
"**These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease."

One of the main ingredients in Afaya Plus is Arum Palaestinum (Black Calla Lily). I found one "in vitro" laboratory study looking at the potential Cytotoxic activity and phytochemical analysis of Arum palaestinum Boiss https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2221169115001859. An "in vitro" study means that is was conducted in a lab in a glass vessel like a petri dish or test tube. Cytotoxic refers to a substance or process which results in cell damage or cell death. The prefix "cyto" refers to cell and "toxic" to poison. This study observed cytotoxic activity in vitro.

I think this may be the phase 1 study to which you refer:
- Potent Antitumor Effects of a Combination of Three Nutraceutical Compounds https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-29683-1

As with any supplement, complementary or alternative therapy, it is best to discuss with your oncology team before investing both in terms of hope and money.

Hi, i am also looking for help for my father. In search for help we got in contact with Dr. Cristina Sanchez and Aunt Zelda’s. Since we do not live in US we will take the recommendations and work with what we have here.
Little intro: My dad was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in 2004 and after going through all the possible conventional treatments the disease progressed to metastastatic and only one bone metastasi involved but it has concentrated on the lungs and so far he had 3 lung surgeries. The last surgery was end of September 2018 but the tumor markers instead of dropping have been going up.
I started researching CBD/THC OIL RSO we got the oil with high THC 800mg/ml but had difficulties in understanding the right doses. So Aunt Zelda’s helped me suggest getting 120mg of CBD daily and 250mg of THC slowly working up to this dose of THC and administering both sub-lingualy. We will see how things go and if needed we will increase the dose of THC.
Good luck and best wishes

@antzk1488- Welcome to Lung Cancer Support Group and Mayo Connect. I am a lung Cancer Survivor of 21+ years. I use CBD oil, the tincture, to help with anxiety and depression as I also have PTSD, which is another story. I think to start off with you need to understand that THC or CBD oil have not been found to "cure" cancer. No one knows as yet how THC and cannabidoil acts on cancer. But from all the discussions here you can see that a lot of people have benefited from it in one way or another.
What type of caner does your father-in-law have? Has he had any treatments, surgeries, etc? Is he in pain, uncomfortable, etc.? Has he smoked any of your weed before? If he has then I would suggest having him use the same dosage and go from there. However please inform his oncologist. I hope that you will get back to me.

My husband has a tumor in his lung and nearby lymph node but the cancer is not necessarily a lung cancer (it is a cancer of unknown primary), as such after a full year his doctors have had no treatment plan or options. They recommended medical marijuana, which he is using. That is all he is using at this point. Today we go for another PET scan. This is the fourth PET in a year (among other tests and biopies). The tumor has gotten smaller every 3 month scan. We don't know that CBD and THC are the reason but...........perhaps. I will update everyone this week on the latest PET results. We are hopeful but cautious.
My husband has experienced no ill effects from using the CBD and THC (it is legal here in Colorado both recreationally and medically). In fact, it has helped with other pain he experiences from another cause (not cancer) and anxiety. There is limited data as to how marijuana may or may not support cancer care. As it's the only intervention we have at this point, we are hopeful it may help hold off this cancer until we can get a diagnosis.
Hugs to you.

Hi @lighthouse68, welcome to Connect. I moved your message to the Lung Cancer group (https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/lung-cancer/)

There have been recent news stories about the potential promise of CBD and/or THC oil and fighting lung cancer, such as these news stories:
https://abcnews.go.com/Health/Healthday/story?id=4506595&page=1
https://metro.co.uk/2018/03/25/could-cannabis-help-cure-lung-cancer-this-man-thinks-so-and-hes-already-spent-1-5m-on-research-7266643/

However, you'll note that both articles are quick to point out that any potential positive effects have only been studied in petri dishes or on mice in a laboratory (in vitro). This is not the same as testing and discovering positive effects in humans. So far CBD/THC is still less effective than current drugs and dosages have not been tested or proven.

Here is more information about studies done so far in vitro from the National Cancer Institute: https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/cam/hp/cannabis-pdq#section/_7 (medical professional version)
https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/cam/patient/cannabis-pdq#section/_3 (patient version. See answers to questions 6 and 7)

What type of lung cancer do you have, Lighthouse? What treatment are you currently on?

Thank you Merry for sharing this! Great information.
My husband has been using CBD/THC in various forms for 6 months (going on 7) for his cancer of 'unknown primary' or type. Thought I'd share that on diagnosis he was given a few months to live and it's been a year. Unfortunately, they still don't know what type of cancer he has but they are leaning toward lung (as it's in his lung and no where else...except a nearby lymph node, pesky node....). His last scan was a week ago and the results show the tumor has not grown, the lymph node has decreased in size/activity just slightly. The only treatment he is receiving now is the medical marijuana and his tumor has decreased overall and the cancer activity has also decreased. It could be the marijuana, it could be.....well just about anything. The doctors are as confused as we are. But we are of course happy it's not progressing quickly at this point. The tumor was shown to be a high grade/fast growing type via pathology but it's not doing that. Will keep everyone posted in another 3 months. It's a mystery.
