I drink one cup of instant Kava coffee a day which is acid neutralized and buy it by the case from the company as it doesn’t get shelf space at local grocery stores here. I also drink low acid Tropicana orange juice. I avoid fried foods, spicy food, high fat food and acidic foods. Yet I still need my 40mg omeprazole each day. I have been on it over 30 years and tried substitutes without success. Before omeprazole I would vomit acid so I rely on it to prevent damage to my throat and stomach. No alcohol for me either as a generous serving of Mogan David wine a few years back set me up with a stomach ulcer which was very painful. I am 72 and as long as I stay this course my digestive health is tolerable.

i'd like to know about your experience with the radio frequency ablations (RFA). what did you experience after it was done. i was told by my GI doctor that there would be swelling of the esophagus and difficult to swallow....thanks ...kozlo52

Last night I was eating cherries, and I can actually feel my throat burn as they go down my throat. I also forgot to take the omprazole in the morning. Only took it at night. So I assume this maybe the cause?

Well it was Dark Sweet Cherries and Rainier Cherries I was eating. They are in season and I'm completely addicted to Cherries this time of year. We go through about 4 pounds a week of them.. LOL.. It feels sometimes like I have ulcers in my throat.. If I have a glass of wine which is seldom I have one it is like I drank cyanide. My throat hurts for a few days. I am thinking maybe that attributed to it..

I have been so sick for months and Prilosec has worsened conditions. I need help but can’ t help when trying to talk with PCP. My doctors can’t listen to side effects. Lost well over 30 lbs because I cannot Sleep or eat. I also am told this is all in my head. Two years ago, same doctor tells me I have MAC but reaction to meds was very bad. I saw someone made up list of foods she has played around with but can’t find her. I have had achalasia but told before surgery this was all in my head.

@macjane So sorry it is miserable to be sick like that. I understand when I had that H-Pylori I was like that. Have you gone for second opinions from another GI Dr? I might recommend you do that.
Here is the an article about eating a Gerd Diet I posted somewhere in this feed. And some drinks I drink to help heal my throat. Natural Alkaline water helps too.
The Healthy Gerd Diet? https://www.gerd-diet.com/
I also find that drinking Aloe and Coconut Water helps settle my stomach.
Can you post how your feeling after trying this?
Thank You
Jackie

@kozlo52 Thank you for sharing. Were you ever tested for H-Pylori? Antacids did not help me either when I had that. It is worth asking and if you are getting an endoscopy they can check for that. That is how they found mine.

Have you tried Aloe Water drinks? They helped my throat the best when it was really bad... Maybe that will work for you. Now question? You say water made your throat worse was it Warm or Ice Cold water? Cold water is harsh at times on my throat. Also what about Honey? Honey and warm chamomile used to seem to help my throat as well. have you tried that? Also another item I took lot was sucrets . It helped numb the pain.

Please share what the is the outcome your procedure.
Praying it is all good.

Hi, I read alcohol is something to avoid (insert sad face here) but red wine especially, guess high acid content. But sounds like cherries are enjoyable & I know they are good for you, although not sure with your condition.

I'm wishing you well with your endoscopy today and I look forward to hearing from you regarding your question about water making your symptoms worse. I've been told to drink just a little water at a time. Too much fills the stomach up and causes more GERD. I usually drink only sips of water with meals and in between meals I drink more, but not usually more than 8 ounces in a half-hour or so. However, you will need to find the amount works well for you.

i had h-pylori problem years ago and it was eradicated by medicine. i no longer have that problem. i had my endoscopy today and the results are all negative. the fundo wrap is intact; there is no thrush; there was slight erosion in the pyloric section of the stomach, but minor; there was no erosion of the esophagus or throat ; there was no bile. My gastro wants me to see a psychiatrist to prescribe a different antidpressant other than zoloft and atavan. too much atavan causes some double vision temporary which is a side effect of atavan.there it is . i have problems with the neck pain from so much arthritis, back pain from the l4-l5 stenosis, so this may be contributing to my perceived heartburn. there is no physical indication of acid reflux.???????.............kozlo52

I have never had a problem with the RFA ( ablations). I go home and rest and then by the next day I am fine. Perhaps my throat feels s little tight or different but there was no pain or real discomfort. I was quite concerned before I had them but I must say that it has not been something that hurts. I would say that it just feels tight and that goes away after a while. My voice seems a little hoarse however so that is one change I have noticed also my voice seems to be a bit raspy but I guess that is a small price to pay for trying to get rid of Barretts. .

@mamacita

I have some of the same problems with powdered drink mixes. I've wondered if it has to do with the food colorings - but that is just a guess. I simply avoid all powered drink mixes now.

Quite possibly the food coloring is an instigator. We have a friend whose child cannot have certain foods because it makes him just wild.
