Time of Day worse with depression

Posted by liz223 @liz223, May 20, 2018

Do you feel more depressed at certain times of the day or night? When I first wake up in the mornings, I'm very depressed. I go into the kitchen in a brain fog and feel so low I want to cry. After I force myself to make a good breakfast and have eaten, my whole attitude changes and I feel I can face the day.

I have bad anxiety and depression when i first get up and sometimes late at night as well. Do you mind if i ask what medication you are on? Iam on mirtazapine, seroquel, and buspar. I dont think they are working for me. Iam going to the doctor tomorrow and will talk to them. I have been titrating off of the seroquel. I was on 300 mgs and now Iam on 200. I have been on it for over a year and the doctor said i could go down to 200. I want to be completely off of it. I dont like the way it makes me feel.

How long have you been on it? Do you think its working? What about side effects? Soŕry to ask so many questions.

Hello @liz223! Based on what you described, have you been diagnosed with diabetes? If not, it may be something you want to check out. If your blood sugar is very low upon waking, that could certainly affect your depression. Even if you are not diabetic, you may be particularly susceptible to low blood sugar. My wife has a very normal A1c, but if she goes too long without eating, she will suffer from lows very similar to what I experience as a diabetic.
Peace and blessings, Gary

Good day, @georgette12 While I am sorry to read of your depression, it is good to have you 'back' on Connect! I came to Connect to help me break the isolation I was struggling with and it really helped then, and continues to help now.

I also understand what you say about structure! I keep a pad of paper with a running list on it. Not big items, but things to keep me focused, occupied, and having something to see on the horizon. Sometimes it is just to call an old friend, send a note to someone, get on Connect, a few projects, and then when I am feeling strong a trip. I never let myself mark something off without adding a new item to the end of the list so I always have things to look forward to in the future, even if they are tiny!

Strength, courage, and peace!

Hello @georgette12

I'm also glad to have you back! Structure and positive thoughts are certainly helpful.

In the past, what sort of activities helped you deal with depression? Do you keep a journal? A gratitude journal can be quite helpful. Before going to sleep each night, write down 5 things that you can be grateful for. Give it a try.

I look forward to hearing from you again,

Teresa

@liz223, .I, too, feel more depressed at a certain time of the day. Regardless of what I have or have not accomplished during the day, I get very depressed and anxious around 4:00 in the afternoon. Thank you for your posting because it makes me feel less alone - or that I'm going crazy. @cognac

I am 68,years old female and feel depression after 8:38am when alone in house. I fix My husband breakfast and lunch for work, he leaves and I go to bed for the day. I have no visiters , rarely get calls and because of recovering from Total knee replacement. I stay in the house because of being self-conscience from the loss of my hair. I am so lonely sometimes I cry for no reason. no money, no close friends, I want to give up but I don't so far.
