High Levels of Vitamin B12 and Ferritin: Any pointers?

Posted by cocoa @annieecruz, Apr 29, 2018

What type of doctor handles test like the MMA Urine test and the HoloTC? Test related to how your body breaks down/absorbs and transport/bonds B12? My B12 test came back extremely abnormal.

@annieecruz, if you don't mind sharing, did you have a medical provider order the test and was there a particular concern for your provider to order the test?

I will suggest you to ask any doctor on this, they may be able to guide you on it.

New to blood cancer, I am working with a hematologist-oncologist, who has an extraordinary range of skills. I would suggest you identify one - on your own or through your internist. Good luck!

I too have had two B12 labs done. One in the 1800s and one 1700s. I am interested in anyone’s experience with this.
Thank you.

Hello @emyliander

I was also wondering about you as well. Have you found any explanation for these high B12 numbers?
I hope you are doing well.

How are your feeling? Will you post again?

No, I’ve had multiple blood tests which were normal, my doc wants to do a PAP & get my mammogram done, then send me to an Endocrinologist. I’ve been under the weather with a month long cold, on antibiotics for a sinus infection, and having trouble with my stomach due to IBS, Microscopic Colitis. My Celiac Sprue is under good control. I’m having trouble with bloating even though I’ve lost a few pounds, due to changing to vegetarian diet and no dairy or sugar, to see if that helps my stomach. No success yet.
Thanks for your interest,
Emy.

I’m trying to figure out why my B12 is always 2000 in blood work. Drs say I don’t need Supplements I have it stored. ??
But I have high SIBO LEVELS. 81. ?? GI. Issues. Degenerating disc. Periphial Neurapathy whole body nerve pain. I understand that B12 not being used properly in the body can cause these symptoms. Chronic fatigue
Does anyone have the same experience???

Hello @12061948 The medical profession moves very slowly. My mammogram was neg, still waiting for results of PAP. I said that my MD was referring me to an Endocrinologist, but none in my area want to work with this, I’m not surprised, it doesn’t seem to fit their criteria. So I called my MD and asked for a referral to our local cancer center, since this is often the cause of high B12, and is what we are trying to eliminate as a cause. So I hope to be going there soon and will update when I have any results.I am not diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but have suffered from daytime sleepiness for yrs and take medication for it which helps but doesn’t eliminate it. I find that many doctors are not aware of the causes for high B12. I hope to either enlighten them or be enlightened myself. I hope you are able to get some results from your medical people. Emy.

Hello12061948, I have talked with a doctor at our cancer center, he feels my high B12’s are probably due to inflammation since I have GI issues also. To give me peace of mind more than anything, he ordered blood work for several cancer markers. The results take about 3 weeks so I have to be patient. I’m thinking that he is probably right. I go for my colonoscopy at the end of the month so I think I’ve covered all the bases. I will post my blood results when I get them. Hope things are going well for you. Emy.
