Shortness of breath.
I have been short of breath and went into ER yesterday. They said I had some fluid around my heart but didn't seem concerned. Is this pretty common with people on Dialysis?

@ginal, I want to drop in to say hi. How are you feeling? Did you find someone to assist with your dialysis questions?
,Rosemary
@rosemarya, Yes I found a PD belt, now training for PD. Will be heading to the Mayo on July 22nd and will be there for 6 days. I have been waiting for some information but they haven't sent it so will probably call today. Thank you for thinking of me and I hope all is well with you, Gina
@ginal, Hi, and yes - Everything is going well for me. I recently was hiking in the Smokey Mountains in TN and NC, and have enough energy to play with my active granddaughter! I will be going to the local lab for my routine labs tomorrow morning and I always like to pick-up my results later in the day to see them. The results are faxed to Mayo.
It sounds like you are moving forward on your care. I sincerely hope that you get results that are satisfactory for you. I imaging that this is a frightening time for you. It was for me. I assure you that you will be in good hands at Mayo.
Did get your appointment itinerary yet? Don't let the busy schedule worry you. Here is a discussion where some members have talked about the transplant evaluation process. It is rather lengthy, but well worth reading. Let me know if you have any questions as your appointment gets closer.

@ginal , I have been thinking about you. I hope you are making some forward progress with your condition and breathing issues.
@rosemarya, My breathing is better, still have problems but not as bad. I went to the Mayo end of July to see about getting on the Transplant list and all my tests came back ok but I need to loose 15 pounds before they will put me on the list. Dosen't seem like much but I have been struggling with that. They also told me without a kidney transplant they give me a average of 5 years to live which was hard to hear. Also started PD which I like better then hemo. Hope all is well with you, Gina
@ginal, Good to hear from you! It sounds to me as if you got some good information from your visit.
Here is a discussion group that I want you to look at - Pre -Transplant Diet and Exercise Ideas - You are not alone with your weight loss effort before transplant. Pour yourself a cup coffee or tea, and join the conversation!
-NOTE - if you want to address a question or a comment to a certain person, just copy or type their @name (like I copied @ginal). And they will get an email notification to alert them.

Thank you for asking. I am doing fine. I continue to make taking care of me my priority. I have felt tired and lazy this week - a sign for me to get some rest. So that is what I did last week - I took it easy, and I feel ready for the upcoming week:-)
@rosemarya, Thank you I will check that out.
My husband had this and it was treated with IV antibiotics and extra dialysis time it as cleared up quickly. They called it percardio infusion
@ginal I have seen your posts about CKD, dialysis, transplant & getting listed, plus shortness of breath. I have stage IV CKD due to diabetes. I have been hoping for preemptive kidney transplant before dialysis becomes necessary. I have gone through pretransplant evaluation 2 years ago and was listed. Around that time I had a period of shortness of breath. I think it was due to the BP med dosage needing to be adjusted and to dehydration. I was limiting fluids thinking I should with CKD but learned that is not true until dialysis starts (in my situation). I just returned from my annual vacation at Mayo for pretransplant review. I’ve had an improvement in GFR and am too healthy for transplant at this time. My list status was changed to inactive. I got some changes in diabetic diagnosis and required medical regime that I’m trying to adjust to. I also need to loose 15 pounds, eat better, increase physical activity and exercise. My hope and prayer for you is that you can loose the weight you need to and get listed. It will be worth it. You should also look for a living donor. That is better. You have already dealt with dialysis, something that really concerns me and is something I haven’t had to deal with yet. You can do this too (weight loss). Stay positive.
@cehunt57, Hi yes I believe my shortness of breath was due to BP meds and dehydration. Even being on dialysis I have to watch not to get dehydrated. I wish I had a living doner but can't find anyone. Loosing this 15 pounds have been so hard I have gained a couple but need to really get my butt in gear. I am on home dialisys which is working for me much better then hemo. I wish the best for you too, keep in touch, Gina
