Reclast Infusions: Side-effects & Recovery time

I just had a reclast infusion last week and have had serious side effects. I had the worst flue like aching for 5 days then my lefty arm became full of inflammation in the wrist, elbow and shoulder which caused extreme pain and I lost the ability to straighten my elbow. Ultrasound showed huge amounts of fluid throughout the arm. The right arm is now starting to have the same symptoms. The pain is excruciating. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Neither the ER doctor nor the Dr. who prescribed the procedure knew what to do to ease the symptoms. Both arms from fingertips to shoulder are swollen and neither elbow will straighten. Anyone else have adverse reactions to the reclast infusion? If yes, how long did it last?

@sljohns I did have the fourth Prolia injection on July 8. And, my bone density test showed improvement again. The endocrinologist also pointed out the improvement in the "neck" area of the hip. I probably should have listened to my doctor's advice and started on Prolia much earlier. So far, so good.
I am sorry you are having Reclast side effects. I hope you will be feeling better very soon.
I am in Canada. For me the most stressful part of the day was having to be inside the hospital. The doctor, the nurse, the technician, the secretary were all masked and wearing face shields. This is the new normal.

Hi! Thank you for your info! Can you let me know what your DEXA scan results were after these natural remedies. Very curious. I can’t do any hormones due to br cancer death ( mother at 61) but in. BRCA 1/2 negative
I have -3.2 in my spine and -2.4 my hips my L4 is -4 and I’m 59 years old I don’t want to do the injections because of the SE side effects incl. kidney toxicity with RECLAST -that apparently only Canada is warning women about as of now. FDA hasn’t responded or warned US docs/ wornen

I’m wondering if supplements incl. calcium, D3 K 2 and weightlifting along with elliptical ( must do combo of the 2 exercise types to help apparently)
plus 6 prunes a day! can help grow or stop bone loss? ?

According to Florida State University researchers, postmenopausal women who regularly ate (10 prunes daily throughout )day have a considerably lower risk of developing osteoporosis and fractures compared to other women of the same age. The study, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, noted prunes are phenomenal for bone health.

(Other study after showed 5-6 per day also worked in 6 months!! )

Both groups had DEXA scans (a test for bone density) at the beginning and end of the original study. At the end of the year, the prune group had considerably greater bone mineral density in the ulna (the bone in the forearm) and spine compared to those in the control group. The blood markers of bone breakdown were also significantly lower in the prune group.[l2]

Hi Giovi, @giovi. Nice to see your name in the Posted by field. I looked up this Fosteum PLUS. It appears to be that this medication is classified as food. The claims are that it will perform both functions of building bone and restoring it. The main active ingredient.....genistein is acknowledged for its purity by the NIH and they conclude the following:

"Conclusions and implications:"
The results strongly suggest that the genistein aglycone might be a new therapy for the management of postmenopausal osteoporosis in humans.

Thanks for introducing so many to an interesting new treatment with some potential. We at Connect appreciate the sharing. How is your dexaScan score holding up? Have you had any problems getting medications because of COVID-19?

Is your heartburn under control? I have noticed that some osteoporosis medications do mention heartburn as a side effect. That would be awfully scary.

Dear VGball - The reason prunes work is because they contain boron. Boron helps with osteoporosis,. The big debate is about how much to take. I started taking it a year ago for osteoporosis, and ALL of my rheumatoid and osteoarthritis symptoms have vanished - and also fibromyalgia. I used to be in horrible, unbearable pain. My hands were in so much pain, I couldn't even change my sheets very well - I just lay the clean sheets on the bed. Now I can crochet and play piano again!!! Boron is clearly very beneficial - it is just not clear how much to take. The current upper level is 20 mg per day. I am taking 9-12 mg per day and I am pain free. There is a doctor named Dr. Jorge Fleches, who trained at Loma Linda (that's very good), who takes boron for his osteoporosis. He is taking 30 mg of boron per day, if I heard right. I know of some people who are taking 75-125 mg per day. Estrogen in your body becomes amplified at those high doses. I have decided to increase my daily dose to 20 mg. My osteoporosis is extremely severe at -5.7. I am very anxious to get a new DEXA scan, but it has to wait until the pandemic is over. I have no immune system and I currently have shingles in my eyes, nose, neck, shoulder and back (a stress reaction following the death of my sweet baby, a 38-year old parrot who was the love of my life). Last time I got this sick, it took me six months to recover - and I'm not even at the halfway mark. But I digress. You can buy boron in 3 mg capsules for very little money - it is cheap. You can also use Borax. There is a Facebook group about boron - and they can give you dosing information. I highly recommend the Osteoporosis Natural Remedies group on Facebook - so much great information there. But please check into boron - or eat your prunes. Oh by the way, Dr. Fleches reports he has not lost any more of his height since he started taking boron - and it has been many years.

It is VERY important to check with your specialists before trying this. There are safer ways to build bone density!

Yes, I have read that too....you do not want to take too much Boron....really just a small amount is what i saw is recommended.

I knew prunes were good for osteoporosis but did not realize it was because they contain boron. The recommended dosage I have seen is 6 prunes a day, but that’s too much for me. Despite having the typical constipation from calcium, 6 prunes causes an extreme opposite reaction! I think three is my “sweet spot”.
