All about Prozac

I just came across this website and the information about Prozac. I thought some of you may be interested in this information, so I thought I should pass it on. The site is Very Well Health (www.verywell.com) and they have lots of great information for you to read.

catcatanzaro60 hey Jim thanks for the response. I haven't had those feelings until lately since my own flesh and blood children did not call to check on me. After years of counseling -I understand the narc, brainwashing them. But man it runs so deep -my kids meant everything to me. It's like waking up and the kids are gone from a bad wreck or something. I don't wish this on anybody. Thanks for your support. God is always by my side. God Bless Everyone in this trying time.

Hi, @catcatanzaro60 - good to hear you got the disability status you'd wanted. Also, sounds like your mood and perspective on the world has changed quite a lot in the last 8 months or so, for the better.

Glad to hear the group here has also been helpful to you in your journey.

Here are a few places on Connect in addition to this thread and the Depression & Anxiety group where you might be interested in sharing some of your relevant health journey as well as helping support others:

What kind of pneumonia have you had, @catcatanzaro60? Do you have a definite diagnosis with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)?

catcatanzaro60 Yes I was diagnosed with COPD. It is depressing. Lung cancer runs in my family.

@catcatanzaro60 I read about family difficulties often in various discussions. I know how blessed I am to have a close-knit, loving family. My parents weren't perfect, but all 6 of us knew that we were loved. My wife was raised in a really healthy home, as well, so we had that history guiding us in raising our son and daughter. They call most days. It's not as good as being together in person, but it keeps us connected.

It's hard to understand why family members abandon each other. The problem isn't a new one, of course. Cain and Abel came to blows, didn't they. I think it's in Song of Solomon, "there's nothing new under the sun". When we experience pain in our relationships, it always seems to have an impact on our mental health. You and I have both worked through some tough stuff, but we've survived. And we can survive what's going on all around us.

Enjoy God's blessing and presence.

Jim

I just increased Prozac from 20 to 30 in the hope of better controlling my anxiety. If not, we’ll try 40 mg. I’m in my 70s, so what matters most to me is quality of life. Anxiety lays ruin to that. Not to mention the pandemic we are all dealing with right now. Does an increase in this med also take awhile to kick in? Has anyone felt more anxiety while adjusting to an increase of Prozac?

Yes, I think any of the depression meds take awhile to take effect. I have been on Prozac for awhile. I don’t remember that increases in dosage caused me to feel anxious. It may be the pandemic and the idea of increasing dosage has made you feel anxious. Try listening to calming music and deep breathing or call a friend to give the Prozac a chance to take effect. Anxiety is miserable, I have had it since I was a child and I am 65 now. I wish you the best.

@annedodrill44 I think @sakota will be comforted to hear that you also chose to increase your anxiety medication to help control your anxiety. Quality of life matters.

Suz55: Thank you for your prompt reply, understanding and empathy. Yes, anxiety is utterly miserable, and the symptoms so frightening. But it’s so great to have all the support we have here. I don’t feel so alone. I’m so grateful for that! Stay safe and well everyone!

Hi Colleen and thank you for your encouragement. You’re absolutely right ... and the older I get, the more important quality of life becomes. Be well and safe during these tough times!

I would have Prozac pizza if it would help! I’m on a therapeutic dosage of Prozac coupled with a small dose of an anti-anxiety drug (clonazepam). They work for me. Find a physician/psychiatrist who will work with you. Life is a mess right now. If you need help, demand it. My best to you....

What is a “therapeutic” dose of Prozac? I recently went from 20 to 30 mg and don’t feel a difference. Talking about going to 40 in a month of I still feel poorly. I too back this up with Clonazepam as needed (2-3 times a week). I don’t want to control anxiety, I want to cure it. I also faithfully meditate, which certainly helps. I have no depression thank goodness.
