Posted by Rosemary, Volunteer Mentor @rosemarya, Feb 26, 2018

"Are there any transplant recipients of any organ who have been hit by a car? How did you recover? What helped you to recover from the multiple injuries?
I am posting this discussion question on behalf of one of our members,
@glinda who has recently been hit by a car and asked me to do it for her. Due to multiple injuries, she may not be able to respond right now and can read your messages.
Your support and encouragement will be appreciated as she recovers.

Hi Rosemary, I am doing good and am done with physical and occupational therapy this coming Wednesday and probably will be going home from the care center on Thursday tomorrow I go back to Rochester to have the IVC blodclot filter removed and to be desensitized to the bactrim again so I can start back on it again it's just a one day thing, I have to wait 2 to3 more weeks to get the surgery on my stomach done to repair my intestines as the surgeons say I'm not strong enough yet to have it done and when they do it they plan to remove my gallbladder as well so was a little disappointed in that no surgery yet but I can understand why will keep you posted on how I am doing. But I am waliking and standing so I am good

@glinda, again I am so impressed by you and how well you have handled all you have been through. I guess the gallbladder is really not very necessary. When you have a liver transplant they take your gallbladder too and do not replace it.
You must be so happy to finally be able to go home. I hope all will go well for you and that you will have some friends and/or family close by to help you when you need it.

Hi, Rosemary, just wanted to touch base with you all here on Mayo connect it was a long time coming for me but I finally left the nursing home and rehabilitation center this week Monday June 11th was a good day but also a sad day as it was the 3rd anniversary of my mom's death but my Aunt Mary my mom's only living sister told me to look at her anniversary like this and that's that my mom picked that day for me to go home as she is proud and looking down from heaven and is my guardian angel protecting me and she wanted me home on her anniversary so I'm looking at it that way it's hard to be home as walking is very tiring especially with a four wheel walker but I'm working on my walking every day I go for the fittings for my knee braces and for my right ankle today and I go back to to Chester on the 3rd of July for my pre-op check for my stomach or my ostoyme and illeostoyme repair am hoping they will do the surgery on the 5th or the 6th of July but will keep you and everyone else up to date on my progress and my surgery oh forgot to tell you am doing great but will start back with out patient physical therapy on the 25th of this month will let you know how that goes also never realized how hard walking is until I had to re-learn how to walk and standing is just as hard hope you have a good day today thanks as always for listening

@glinda, Again, I celebrate with all of the other members in this discussion! Your journey has been an inspiration.
Your Aunt Mary's message to you is absolutely beautiful. I am happy for the comfort and the love that it has relayed to you. Please give her a hug from me. I, also have realized some special blessings on personal anniversaries. That might be an interesting discussion sometime.
I know that you will be extra busy, and will be taking care of yourself by getting the rest that your body will require with the
'new' physical activity. I will be thinking of you as I will be 'struggling' in my own reality of doing some hiking soon;-)
Hugs,
Rosemary

Hi @glinda

I just love your aunt's reflection on your mom cheering you on when you came home on June 11. It was a great picture of encouragement, wasn't it?

You have done so well! I am so proud and happy for you.

I look forward to hearing from you again as you go for the next step in healing on July 3.

@rosemarya, hi sorry it's been awhile since i have written anything have been doing physical therapy with my legs and I have had my final surgery from the accident on my stomach they were able to due the ostyme reversal on my stomach on the 5th of July and they also removed my gallbladder so now I am healing from that they left the wounds open on my stomach so I do wet to dry bandaging 3 times a day but the wounds are almost healed now and I saw the general surgeon yesterday (the3rd) and they say it looks great but I do have to go back on the 27th to see the surgeons again for a final recheck. I did spend a week and a half in the hospital due to my surgery as I had a couple minor complications due to the surgery had some minor bleeding and had to spend the night in the ICU to have another blood transfusion and then my bilirubin went up so they watched that along with my creating level as my kidneys weren't quite functioning right but was so glad when I could finally come home I am slowly improving my walking is better but not without the walker and with the walker it's slow going as my right hip doesn't want to shift when I need it to my left leg is still healing from the break in it due to where I broke it I also found out that I did actually fracture a vertabrea on the right side of my neck in the accident and did refractured the spot in my back that already had a compression fracture so as the doctors and I say I was very lucky to survive when I wasn't supposed to I'm just glad to be alive and walking even if it's a turtle pace and I have been trying to keep up with you guys on connect I missed talking with you all I do have to have more blood work on the tenth of this month as my creating level is at a 3 which is showing that my kidney function is not good they are hoping that it from the lasix I was on and now take only as needed and my prograf which they put me back on after the accident my prograf is a little high so they lowered my night time dose to see if that helps as I have at least 1 to 2 months left to take it before they start switching me back to the rapamune anti-rejection meds. Can't wait to go back on the rapamune then I won't have to worry about non stop headaches or migraines again and I finally got desensitized to my bactrim antibiotic again while I was in the hospital so glad for that as I was not on it for three and a half months. But as I said I'm healing good other then walking and my left leg but I have learned that it's okay to slow down and I have been lucky with not having any serious bouts of PTSD since I came home some mild anxiety but I still see my counselor but instead of monthly it's every two weeks and she gave me some coping mechanisms fory PTSD to help me when it comes up so I would say I'm getting back to a somewhat normal place for me was glad to hear from you and sorry it took so long to get back to you oh forgot to tell you I did have my surgery in Rochester MN and I did see my transplant team yesterday also they are the ones ordering the blood work just wish I could go off the sodium bicarbonate that I take twice a day but not until my creatnin comes down to normal and my kidneys are functioning normally again well I guess I better go for now time for a dressing change glad they don't hurt anymore take care
