Welcome to the Heart Rhythm Conditions group on Mayo Clinic Connect.

You are taking 50mg twice a day? That's a very high dose? No wonder your heart rate is in the 40s.. How come your doctor is giving you such a high dose. I would question him about it. Is he a cardiologist? Does he know that it makes your heart rate in the 40s? You should ask him about this.. I always speak up with the my doctors. They are only human beings. They are not God.

I take 150 and have been at 200. The Cardiologist said that it takes large doses sometimes to do what it needs to do. It depends on how your body metabolizes it. Even at my dose I have no side effects and my heart rate is in the 40s. They don't want it to go higher as I also have 2 aneurysms. They said that as long as I do not get light headed from the dose 40s is fine.

Maybe you should ask your doctors about supplements like Hawthorne. It is known world wide as one of the things heart patients are in need of.

Your doctors aren't wrong about a heart rate in the 40s. Again, in other countries 40 is thought to be good. The Chinese have a philosophy...we only have a certain number of beats, and after that we die. So...if you are only beating 40 times a minute your body will last far longer than those like Jim Fixx who died at age 52 and was a runner getting his heart rate up every day of his life after his dad died at age 43. BTW...Jim needed some cardiologist intervention for his blocked arteries he had not had checked out.

I had A fib and an ablation . After 6 months, and issues with blood thinners, and no afib, I am off blood thinners and have a link implanted in my chest to monitor the a fib. Working well!

This is what I have: electrophysiology docs at Univ of Colorado Anchutz use it. Medtronic Model 24960 monitors the link device in the chest.

I had one two months ago and am doing extremely well. I experienced a few short lived reoccurrences but they appear to here stopped. My Dr told me that it takes three months for the heart to totally heal from the procedure. I am very happy with the results!

Wanting to learn as much as possible about afib.the dos & do nots
Any tips?
