Heart Rhythm Conditions – Welcome to the group
Welcome to the Heart Rhythm Conditions group on Mayo Clinic Connect.
Did you know that the average heart beats 100,000 times a day? Millions of people live with heart rhythm problems (heart arrhythmias) which occur when the electrical impulses that coordinate heartbeats don't work properly. Let's connect with each other; we can share stories and learn about coping with the challenges, and living well with abnormal heart rhythms. I invite you to follow the group. Put on beta blocker to reduce afib, and getting closer to normal heart beats. However, heart rate still in the 90's. Got the result of a thyroid blood test, and it's a bit high. Bring this down by reducing the thyroid hormone will reduce my heart rate. I am moving closer to the sweet spot.
Good for you🙏🏻😊
I feel better! When I first walk in I go for the sit down machines and as I get through them I start feeling stronger. By the time I leave in an hour or so I feel really good. Thanks for the question!
Thank you! Well, I've decided I'm just not gonna let it get me all the way down! And I know I'm getting stronger even with the a-fib. I've actually added some weight to some of the machines since this started. Not a lot of course, but some. And when I leave the gym, I have to walk up two flights of stairs and unbelievably, I'm taking those stairs easier. This is amazing to me.
That's great! I'm going to start taking a beta blocker too. Metrotoprol. Hoping it will get me back in rhythm. Have to pick up the prescription today. Happily, I am actually in rhythm today! And feel great. Maybe I don't need it? Ha ha.
Stay in it. It's great drug.
Along with Flecinade.
I take those and Xeralto
For my AFib.
It's all been good to me.
I started when I was 64
I'm 75 now.

deanne,
I hope you do well on THAT drug. My cardiologist took me off that one. I didn't do well on it.
So it's actually helped keep your heart in rhythm for 11 years! That is great to hear!
How is your heart rate now after taking the Beta Blocker and reducing the thyroid hormone for awhile? I started on a beta blocker today (Metoprolol or Troprol 50 mg am and pm).
I hope so too, @eileena. I started it this morning. BB has been all over the place today. Low as 82/71, high as 134/83. Still in a-fib, but I feel really good today. Even raked my back yard and filled my green bin! And vacuumed the house! Lots of energy today. But I don't know if I can attribute it to that med! What were your symptoms of "not doing well?"
