Maybe try herbal solutions. I rarely ever cough and have no other symptoms. Doc says =according to my ct scans, I have mac=. Appreciate any herbal info/advice. Thanks. Charley

@charlie999 , Hello Charlie. I was diagnosed in 2005 with MAC and bronchiectasis. I opted to not go the route of the three strong antibiotic regimen due to worrieksonvile. s of harming my liver. I have been on an ongoing treatment over the last 5 yrs of using one a month. I take the antibiotic for 10 days each month and the antibiotics are alternated each month as to not build up a resistance to them. The two antibiotics used were doxycycline and ciprofloxacin. I did those two for three yrs. until I caught a. psudomonas. Then, the doxycycline was swithed to tobramycin. So far so good. I have not coughed in years, whereas, I used to cough non-stop and violently. The doctor that put me on this regimen is at the Mayo Clinic in JAX.

Has anyone tried taking Silver

I'm trying silver just recently. I put a few drops in my nebulizer along with a prescribed saline solution. It's too soon to say if the silver is helping but nebulizing the saline twice daily has help with my breathing and energy level. When I know more, I'll post it.

@flib , I think the cooidal silver is a good idea. After all, the Colonials and the Europeans ate with sterling silverware and drank from silver goblets. It was not only prestigious, but the silver killed bacteria. So, it was avantagious to use silver. The silver would leach into the food and drink, thus, providing a prophylaxis to getting food borne illness. And, I suspect mac from water.

@flib
I also use colonial silver.one dropper full two times a day. I have heard of nebulizing it also and was tempted to try it. I wish there were more studies on it and natural therapies but there won't be because there isn't money in natural substances. Keep us updated on how its going.
I use some herbs for the last year and the mycobacteria Abcessus I had for a full year prior disappeared. I don't think it's a coincidence but can't say for sure so don't plan on quitting taking them.
You can learn about them in a book called Herbal Antibiotics by Stephen Buhner.

@charlie999, I know that my previous reply didn't answer your question about alternative or natural treatment for mac. My reply was rather about an alternative way to treat mac with antibiotics that is less harmful to the liver. If you are really interested in a more natural approach for treatment, then I would recommend seeking help at the University Of Arizona Medical school. They have a wonderful integrative medicine division there.

I just purchased that book (Herbal Antibiotics) when I was in Vermont last weekend. I agree it is a great book but there are so many herbs in it to try. Can I ask which herbs you tried? The person in Vermont who recommended the book said he had luck with Sida and Cryptolepis.

In a Google search, I found that Turmeric was recommended and use a Nebulizer. I have been taking 1,000 mg. of Turmeric daily. Also, walk twice daily and workout at a Fitness Center. Have not tried the antibiotics and am putting them off as long as possible. I cough a lot but; have good energy and able to stay active.

What are you using in the nebulizer?
Turmeric is a good antiinflammatory so I'm thinking about trying it because it should help my arthritis too. Do you take it all at once or divided throughout the day?
