Aortic stenosis and regurgitation/leaky valve

Posted by nanadoris @nanadoris, Nov 16, 2017

My cardiologist has been monitoring me for about 2 years and at my last echo it was a 1.1. I have days when I'm so tired for no apparent reason to the point that I just sit in my recliner most days. Has anyone else had this problem?

My doctor has also told me I have a leaky valve but he said it wasn't bad enough to do anything about it. He also said I have Afib and am on Eliquis (a blood thinner) to control the Afib. He did give me some other medicine for the Afib but it affected my kidneys (I only had 40% kidney function) and reduced the function to 23% in about a week so I stopped taking that. Wonder if I should get another opinion.

Eliquis does not control afib. It prevents strokes by thinning blood

<p>My internist informed me years ago that I have leaky heart valves and since I had Takasubo episode 3 yrs. ago, I have an ekg every 8 months or so. I've asked him if the leaky valve condition could go back to having had Scarlet Fever as a small child as I recall hearing the Doctor at bedside telling my parents that if I recover (almost died), I might have a heart murmur. My doctor confirmed that I've always had the leaky valve condition all the many yrs. I've seen him (was my parent' internist/cardiologist) and I'm just turning 88yrs in Oct. Like to have more info. on this condition and what it means for my heart health at this time.</p>

It's always good and appropriate to get another opinion - especially if there are complications involved. I have a feeling this leaky valve condition is not uncommon- I'm seeing my internist/cardiologist in a couple of weeks and will discuss this leaky valve business again - as usual- and try to learn more.

Hello @dfelix,

I wanted to follow up and ask after you – how are you feeling now? I can imagine you must have been feeling weak...heart surgery can
make you feel like you’ve been through a battle! Did you do the cardiac rehab program?
