Anyone have physical reactions to Atorvastatin?

Anyone have physical reactions to Atorvastatin or is it just me? Anything that can happen - did. Not all at once but in a progression. I took it for 7 months. I'll list the problems as they happened over the 7 months.
• couldn't sleep
• nightmares - regularly
• stuffed sinuses
• post nasal drip
• prolonged gut-wrenching cough
• gurgling with each breath
• stomach discomfort spiked
• breathing difficult - couldn't get a deep enough breath
• right wrist began to hurt - use restricted
• depression - crying - not wanting to do anything
• couldn't form sentences - words wouldn’t come
• thought process flawed - hard to think - logic deficient
• chest constricting - couldn't make it up 13 stairs without several stops
• muscles in all 4 extremities - stiffening and painful
• chest constantly tight - a fight to breathe
• finally had to resort to stairlift chair to get upstairs and down
• muscle cramps night and day - legs and arms - sometimes back (lower side muscles)
• finally couldn't lift arms past waist/chest
• walking across the room - difficult - tendency to stumble
• act of sitting down and standing up became a battle

Now going into the 7th week off the statin - all those symptoms have disappeared - except for the wrists. The ligaments still hurt - painful to type - use the cell phone, etc.
I didn't complain sooner because I thought all this was the result of things going on in life, and a fall I took. A friend happened to take a statin and was telling me how she couldn't sleep and was having muscle problems. That revelation was a ringing bell and a bright light. I asked to be taken off Atorvastatin.
Have been told to go on Repatha instead. And I will not.

Wow, that's a lot of serious side effects. They'd have to speed up the audio a lot to fit all of them into a 30-second ad. Thankfully for you, all but one went away. What dose were you taking? I take 20 mg, and I've never had physical effects. But after I first started, I sensed that my ability to solve problems at work had declined, so I stopped taking it. Several years later I resumed, without noticing that effect.

@mfmikula

I started having muscle spasms in the stomach and abdominal areas while taking Atorvastatin.
I was taken off of it. I'm now on Prevastatin, 20mg. every other night. My spasms are almost gone.

Wow! I have been taking atorvastatin for many years since the year 2000 I think. I am currently mostly unable to walk. This has happened progressively over time. I have gone to physical therapy and they just say I've plateaued so they discharge me. I have all the pain that you do and they say I have fibromyalgia because the x-rays don't show the amount of arthritis that would cause as much pain and stiffness as I have. I'm wondering if all this could be from the atorvastatin. I've been to the neurologist many times and they just look at me sideways and say that I'm complicated because of all my conditions. I wonder if my mobility issues are from the statin. Thank you so much for sharing! I have to talk to my cardiologist! Hopefully he believes me! Which is another issue.

@trishsei my husband took atoravastin for a short time after being on zocor/simivastin for years with no problems. He. Was in terrible pain but did not know why. We believed it was rheumatoid arthritis. As soon as he stopped atoravastin he was fine. He stopped because a patient that I was working with had the dame problem.

Yes. I am abput your age and tried 3 statins and Nexletol and they all gave me muscle weakness and severe body pain. I started going to PT, then I stopped taking them and my pain disappeared in about 2 weeks. I had an allergic reaction to Repatha. I am taking Zetia and it doesn't make a huge difference. I have LP (a).

@hsminc thank you! I will definitely talk to my cardiologist about a switch.

Hi im on 80mg per day and the only thing I can see as an rare problem is a muscle cramp as I wake up in the morning, might happen every few months but I solve it easily by standing. It immediately subsides. Been on it for many years so I would suggest you talk with your Doctor and see if another one works better for you. I was once on Simvastation and that one gave me those cramps a lot more often so I stopped it and later when I got my Heart
Transplant they wanted me on one so we used Atrovastiton and brought it up slowly 20 Mgs at a time. Been on 80 now for at least a few years. I also just started on repatha 6 weeks ago and still no problems with side affects. I hope you find a solution.
Have a blessed day.

I had to quit taking it. A neurologist took me off. It was destroying the strength in my legs. Which I have never fully gained back!

I had the same issues with this Rx a couple of years ago. My left hand and wrist actually froze one day when I got in my car and put my left hand on the steering wheel. Didn't last long but a few weeks later when driving on an interstate my driver's side foot suddenly froze. That was a challenge. Had to cut the Rx down substantially with my MD's advice about how much. No issues since.

@cindyschubert1 I stopped taking statins because of the pain in my muscles in my legs and in my arms. I am now on repatha for 3 months and just had a cholesterol test yesterday. Skinny little needle that automatically shoots the medication into your stomach and it works easily. I do it every other week. I'll update you on my results as soon as they come through.

@phobson
Thanks for the info. As of now I haven’t been taking anything and my cholesterol has been going up since I quit the statin. (It seems to be a family trait!🤪 ) I’ve been having other circulation issues and getting worried. Please update me on your progress!

I am statin intolerant. I tried several kinds, low dose, 3 times a week and I had terrible pain all over. I had trouble rolling over in bed, getting out of bed, going up stairs, exercising. I couldn’t lift my young grandkids. I went to PT, OT and used heat and ice. I was only in my mid 60’s. After two years, my doctors listened and allowed me to stop. My recovery was slow, but I now get out of bed totally pain free most days. I can exercise, do yoga, and play with the kids. No more therapy! Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to Repatha, so I’m trying some supplements and hoping for the best.

@con123 can I ask, how "slow" was your recovery? I ask because my cardiologist said I could try being off of atorvastatin for a month and see what happens with my cholesterol. Do you think that's enough time to see a difference?
