Measurement Discrepancies
I understand that minor measurement discrepancies commonly occur, but just inquiring if anyone has had a discrepancy of .5 cm.
I have an ascending aorta aneurysm which was discovered this year and is under surveillance. Measurements listed below;
* Feb 4.2 by echocardiogram
* March 4.6 by CT scan
* Sept 4.7 by echocardiogram
I was informed that you match the size difference to check for growth with the same screening method . That means by the echocardiogram my aneurysm has grown .5 cm in only 7 months.
This was alarming to me, but my cardiologist didn’t seem too concerned and thinks it is only a measurement discrepancy. He has ordered another CT scan in March 2027 for confirmation.
Not sure if I should wait that long to confirm if I have a fast growing aneurysm or if I should request a CT scan asap for peace of mind.

After my initial diagnosis in March 2026 , my MRA showed 47 mm. One month later, I had two echocardiograms performed by two different cardiologists at two different locations and on different dates. Both completely overlooked my aneurysm and stated that the ascending aorta was only 40 mm and, given my BSA (2.47), was completely normal, and that I didn’t need to make any lifestyle changes. For a few hours, I felt 1,000 kg lighter and so relieved.
Fortunately, my instinct told me not to take that seriously, and that turned out to be correct because in July, the CTA showed 49.3 mm… That 40 mm ultrasound taken at the hospital was actually removed from my medical record…

If you are a woman, the American Heart Association says that a 5.0 c. m. is a red flag for surgery. I think it's still 5.5 c. m. for men.
@pegsterb saw the vascular surgeon today forvmy aortic arch aneurysm. ECHO showed 5.6 CTA showed 5.4
Said he didn't go by an ECHO because of technician error! He wants me to come back in a year for another CT. Said contrast is not necessary, thank Goodness! At my age it would be very high risk surgery so he wouldn't do it. So can only" keep BP low and no stress".

1 Reaction@jdssunflower I'm so glad that they could get you in so quickly to see the surgeon. You had a pretty bad time with the CTA and the cancelation of your appointment. Happy that everything is working out for you. Prayers and best wishes!!! And hugs!!!🤗🤗🙏🙏♥️
