Podcast Recommendation
I came upon three episodes of a podcast yesterday that I think would be helpful to patients and caregivers. A neurologist, Todd Levine MD, out of the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, is interviewed. The name of the podcast is "What I'd Tell My Family" and I listened to three excellent episodes on all types of dementia and diagnostic challenges, the newer blood tests and APOE4 education. I listened on Spotify but it is likely available elsewhere.

@jenniferkr And my husband is not the one with the problem. I am! In midst of work-up. I want new and different, although I do love a good "I Love Raymond ", "Leave It to Beaver" or "Andy Griffith" episode!

3 Reactions@teal8 my husband has Lewy Body Dementia confirmed with skin biopsies and symptoms. It makes any management difficult. When this is all said and done I will volunteer in this area. I hope you are ok.

3 Reactions@maryvc Hello, thanks for your reply. I can already see the difficulty in managing this. I am anxious for a diagnosis. How are you doing? Do you have a good support system? Sending you strength to face your daily challenges. The worst/best part is they don’t know. It’s so hard to lose your person this way. One day at a time.

3 Reactions@jenniferkr, thank you so much for this tip! I want to be near my husband as he watches his favorite movies again and again, but I can't stand to see them repeatedly! This idea is such a help!

I actually begged my husband not to play a certain movie again last night, because 'we just watched it' (my mantra these days).

1 Reaction@teal8 I feel for you. Anxiety is the word for you and me and our person. It is important to have lots of support and yes I’m in two support groups, have lots of friends and family and moved to the same CCRC as my husband. Do all I can to stay standing when often I want to melt in a ball and cry. This is so hard. And I wish I could help him through his hard parts.
When he wants to express his fears, all I can do is listen as he tries to communicate and give him a hug and kiss and let him know I am listening.
Is your husband still home with you and do you have support?
We are in the later stages.
I wish I could help you.

4 Reactions@judimahoney It gets so frustrating but then again I am so relieved when he is entertained by a movie even if he has watched 150 times. The headphones/earbuds have been a huge benefit for me.

2 Reactions@maryvc thank you Mary. I appreciate your kind words. We are in the early stages. My husband is 67 and has not been formerly diagnosed which is so frustrating and challenging. His siblings and son don’t know. They don’t see him often and I haven’t shared because we don’t have a formal diagnosis. I have great kids, friends and a wonderful therapist. Taking it all one day at a time right now. It’s so hard to plan anything. And I’m a planner 😳😉
I’m glad you have support systems. You have helped me by reaching out. I hope today is a good day for you. Sending strength and hugs. 🤗

7 Reactions@teal8 You are so welcome. What I would say is enjoy every moment at this stage. Although I became the one in charge of everything, we traveled. When flying became difficult, I took him on road trips. We also stayed as social as we could with friends and family. Although I didn't sleep for three years, I could still do 24/7 care and hired help a couple days. He also enjoyed a daycare program for awhile. So savor the time you have. I don't need to go into the inbetweeens. Now I visit most days and he still knows me and feels good when I am there. He went from our home to memory care and now is full skilled care but even just holding hands is meaningful.
And like you, I have a therapist and energy healer and supports.
Today is a morning of phone calls, then a meeting with the healthcare team to do my Vial of Life ( medical info that goes in the refrigerator for EMS) and then I visit S and then onto Tai Chi at our place and then a honorary event for a cousin.
It's all moments.
I'm also in a writing group and I journal daily.
Our prompt was a quote from a book _
"There is no now and then. There is no now and later. There is only now and now and now and now."
